In South Africa I can only get Whiskas (and Fancy Feast, Bob Martins, Purina Friskies and Catmor) in pouches with either gravy or jelly. More or less what carbs are in these?

If it is jelly, it may actually be gelatin. You may have notice how some homemade soups will become gelatinous when chilled - that's the same stuff and it is protein based. Think Knox gelatin, if you have it where you are.

You can always do a trial feed and test day to see how a particular food affects your cat. Keep everything else the same - time, dose, activities - and feed the normal amount, then do a curve to observe the impact.

Great idea, thanks.
Yes it does look slightly like gelatin.

Thanks Becky, it seems as though the Whiskas is pretty high at 12% but certainly lower than what he was on. A home made diet seems to be the best option, if I can find a grinder!
