Hi, I'm giving my cat prozinc, I was using U-40 syringes but they no longer on sale in my country and buying them elsewhere cost 3 times more, so I bought U-100 syringes and want to make sure I got the conversion's correctly

I'm currently giving my cat 2.50 U of prozinc which in a U-100 syringe would be 6 units if I give him the lower dose (equal to 2.40 U-40) or 6.5 if I choose to give him a higher dose (equal to 2.60 U-40)

is this correct?

using U-100 syringes also changes the increments of dosis from 0.25 to 0.20 equivalents right?
I was making increments of 0.25 and now according to the equivalence table the increments are of 0.20 ( from 2.40 to 2.60 to 2.80 etc, when before it was from 2.50 to 2.75 etc)

can someone confirm this is correct, I don't want to mess things up.

Thanks for the help!! :)

According to the conversion chart, to give 2.4 units of ProZinc you would draw the U-100 syringe back to the 6 unit mark. To give 2.6 units of ProZinc, you would draw the U-100 syringe back to the 6.5 mark. So you are on the right track.

Can you please try to get some mid-cycle tests on your kitty? You need to see how low the dose is taking your cat in order to know if the dose is correct or needs increasing or decreasing.

I remember you were having some health problems of your own, so I hope you are doing better now. You have had a lot going on.

Thanks, the problem is the test strips are very expensive they cost me 60$ and they last less than a month, so I'll do a short curve tomorrow when he's supposed to get 2.75 and get more strips.

I would love doing a lot of tests but is very expensive so I do two tests previous to insulin and will try testing more the day before I have to adjust his dose and the day I adjust his dose.

he's having problems walking with his hind legs, so I'm giving him vit b12 the type you guys recommend, but I haven't found a higher dose than 1000 mcg, it's the daily dose they recommend for humans, but I don't know if it will be enough.

As for my own problems, is not good, they found a rare degenerative disease, that is caused by another unknown disease , so I need to do more tests to find the disease that is causing it, so hopefully we can treat that and it stops the rare disease for which there's no cure.

luckily at the moment I don't need to stay at the hospital so I can give Nyan his insulin, one less worry at least.

Thanks again for your help, take care!

I’m really sorry to hear about your health problems. I sincerely hope for answers, help and healing for you.

As for the testing, I was going to ask if you could do a curve on him at some point. That would be good. It’s not good how expensive those strips are.

Yeah, I'll do a 12 hour curve, tomorrow when I change his dose, and I'll do a longer one the next week on the next dose change when more strips arrive, I'm buying a different glucometer let's hope the difference is not too great, last time I bought a different glucometer the difference was 60 points, the one I have is expensive but I know it's accurate
