Is there a "list" of the wet foods that are best for cats? I am doing reseach for my mom and she wont take the time to do the carb calculator. I know many of the classic brands of fancy feast are good, but are the other low cost options? She cannot afford anything more expensive than FF. Keep in mind, her cat is not diabetic but he needs a diet change. Thanks!

Hi Erika, Rhiannon posted this really helpful short-cut sheet a couple of days ago: Low carb Food she used the same list from Dr. Lisa that Denise posted; it might be helpful to print this out to give to your Mom.

You might also check if your local supermarket or pharmacy has their own brand of cat food comparable to FF. Publix, my supermarket, makes their own version of FF pates that are 40 cents a can. Walgreens also sells "Nice" pate cat foods. I have no idea what the ingredients/ nutritional facts are, but I imagine it's comparable to Friskies. You could always call the company and ask for more information. Another option is to look into a wholesale store like Costco, Sams, or BJS. Usually buying in bulk means super discounts.

Here is a link for your mom that you can print that has walmart's brand and sophisticat which I think is petsmart brand...
it's an older list so the values might not be as accurate anymore ( pet food companies often change things up and they look for cheaper
ways to mass produce) but if she sticks with pates or looks at the ingredient lists she can avoid the suspect ones ( no gravies)
janet/binky's canned list

As Dr. Lisa Pierson says, any canned food is preferable to dry.
Do be warned that with the cheaper foods, it is best to minimize any seafood varieties....
Pet food uses the leftovers sitting there that isn't good enough to go in human foods.

She can also watch for sales and buy in bulk...
WholeFoods grocery sells Wellness and they put sales occasionally... as do the other stores like PetsMart who had friskies cans for 50cents
when I was there yesterday and I bought a case of fancy feast for 55cents a can...
Walmart also sells small cases of fancy feast classic chicken and turkey and giblets and it's cheaper that way than buying one can a a time...
