i was unable to source free range ingredients for my raw diet for a couple of months and resorted to feeding Pamper (Friskies) to my 3 strictly-indoor kitties. I buy in bulk, and toward the end of the 2nd batch they started refusing it most of the time, or eating very little of it. Didn't think it was serious, until one civvie started vomiting occasionally. Then it became more regular and I took her to the vet where the vet diagnosed 'food incompatability' or 'food allergy'. Before the Dx I gave the leftovers to the dog and he developed similar symptoms to the cats - diarrhea, vomiting, not wanting to eat (and he is a veritable Hoover - eats anything and everything). The 2 bigger cats, incl Errol the FD, overcame the issues as soon as I put them back on raw food, but the littlest just went downhill despite treatment incl SQ's etc. She passed away a week ago. To say I'm devastated is an understatement especially considering it was so acute and unnecessary.
The other point is, my FD's BG #'s have lowered since I have put them back on the raw diet.
i'd like to know if anyone else has had similar issues with canned foods and what your experience was:
1. has anyone had issues with canned food causing kidney / liver problems / illness (perhaps of unknown origin but suspected food) in their FD cats?
2. has anyone had a cat develop CKD due to poisoning - possibly diet related from canned food?
if so i would love to hear from you.
