Hi there, We are currently on Caninsulin 8 units a day, Toadflax has his fructozamine results come back and they have gone down from 647 to 612 whatever that means. His basic glucose test they did at the vets was 30 (UK reading) originally and is now 19 so its on its way down. The vet wants to keep him on Caninsulin for a couple more weeks and then transfer him over to PZI if the results aren't much better.

My question is, has anyone else first been on caninsulin and then changed over to PZI and then seen a really good result. I've heard rave reviews about PZI and when mentioned it to my vet on Tuesday he had said he was already planning on swapping him anyway so that was positive.
Thanks :)

Hi there - we switched from Caninsulin (Vetsulin) to PZI and have been really happy with it. I think there are several others around also who have switched.

8u is a really scary-high dose though. If he eats high-carb food that makes it less scary, but still it's a high dose. (or is it 4u 2x/day maybe? that's less scary too, though still on the high side, though it might be right for higher carb food)

If you haven't already, you might want to post on Health - you can get lots of great info there on home-testing (if you're not already), low-carb diets, and lots of other stuff. You'll get some freak-out on the dose too :) don't take it personally, everyone will just want to be sure your kitty is on that kind of dose for good reasons, rather than what happens sometimes, which is they get on a dose that is too high and get wonky results because of that.
