Hi All,
My cat Lamont was diagnosed with diabetes on Dec. 2 with diabetes, went into remission 4 days later (thank you Feline Diabetes Message Board and Dr. Pierson!!!!) and has stayed that way. He eats, drinks goes to the bathroom normally. His hair has not grown back in, but I test him occasionally and his glucose is normal.

He also has a probable diagnosis of axial osteosarcoma. I say "probable" because that's what the vet thinks. Lamont had a small very very hard lump on his side that I first noticed about 11 months ago. It didn't appear to grow. After the vet noticed it, though, on Dec. 29 (his fructosamine follow-up), he said to know for sure I'd have to do a biopsy and xrays. I decided against it because if the outcome was a malignancy, due to the location of the tumor, surgery, which would be VERY painful, wouldn't really extend his life. He couldn't do chemo because of the prednisone. I decided to let him live out his life begin loved. I, of course, googled it and average prognosis for a cat with axial osteosarcoma is 5.5 months.

So, meanwhile, since Dec. 29th, that lump has grown a HUGE amount. It's not round, but a lumpy mass, roughly 3" wide. Lamont, however, seems ok. He's eating, drinking, going to the bathroom and occasionally playing. He still jumps. It's obvious he's not the same, but he doesn't appear to be in distress in any way.

Without doing the biopsy (which I think is pointless pain for him), is there any way to gauge how long I have left with him? Is it possible these tumors, while getting bigger can hang around for a long time without causing death? I've heard from a million people that the way I'll know he's "ready" is when he stops eating and tries to hide. Everybody says "you'll know." But literally every day I wake up and wonder if this is going to be "the day."

Any/all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Cause this is breaking my heart.
