Hi everyone.......my Shakespeare has been diagnosed with a rare aggressive cancer. He had surgery monday which is how they found it. He stopped eating Thursday and that is when his sugars started going up....on Saturday I bought fresh shrimp and that is the only thing he will eat. I am still giving insulin but his sugars keep going higher......can't figure this out. He has been diabetic for about 5 years.....could it be from the cancer, they weren't able to get it all.......any ideas are welcome. Thank you

So sorry about the cancer diagnosis for your kitty :( was there any infection involved with the surgery? Is Shakespeare on steroids now? Those are often the sources of BGs going out of whack with cancer.
When we get cancer in the pic, FD becomes secondary and our dose may increase to counteract the effects of the disease and the meds to treat it. Just try to test enough to watch for drops.
Scritches to Shakespeare.

Thank you....no infections or steriods......only pain meds
the only thing he will eat right now is fresh shrimp.....otherwise he will not eat

Before Yoshi's cancer diagnosis, he wasn't eating but I could get him to eat bits of raw chicken and cooked egg yolk. For the egg yolk I cooked an over easy egg with it cooked but runny yolk and he'd lick up the yolk.
Don't know if this is appropriate for your guy but there is also the "liver shake" for sick kitties posted here five years ago. Here's the post ---

THE '~LIVER SHAKE~' FOR SICK CATS

This liquid food is appropriate for cats suffering from conditions where they are eating very little or not at all such as anemias, leukemias, deficiency states with symptoms of lethargy, listlessness, and weakness.

1 cup RAW LIVER (BEEF, or CHICKEN)
1 cup FRESH CARROT JUICE or V-8, or Tomatoe Juice
1/4 cup *FRESH FILTERED WATER
1 RAW EGG YOLK
1 tsp.KELP POWDER OR SPIRULINA

COMBINE AND MIX IN A BLENDER UNTIL LIQUEFIED. (Note: it will be frothy)

Dosage:

Administer 10cc daily 3-6 times a day. (6Occ per day max)

Some cats will need to be force-fed with a syringe, while others will drink it out of a bowl.

This food has a sweet and salty taste, and the energetic properties of tonifying (energy boosting), warming and stimulating and supports the kidneys, spleen, liver and stomach.

This drink is a complete dinner for a sick cat until they feel good enough to eat by themselves again.

*Substitute rice water if the cat has diarrhea. Rice water
is made by boiling white rice (2 Tbsp) with water (1cup) for 30 minutes.
This liquid aids digestion and assimilation and inhibits the symptoms of diarrhea.

Hi Denise,
We're sorry to hear about Shakespeare's diagnosis. Do you know what kind of cancer it is?
I've been told that any kind of health issue that might increase pain or stress for a cat can also increase their BG. Is he on any meds for the cancer yet?
In humans, pancreatic cancer and diabetes are linked. In cats, they don't know for sure but suspect these conditions might be linked.
Please hang in there.
