Cancer & Diabetes question

Hi, I haven't been on these boards in quite a while, as Molly has stayed in remission from diabetes....but now we face another hurdle, Molly has cancer. I was hoping someone on these boards might have experience with this. Molly has a carcinoma in her neck that has metastacized to her lungs, with several areas involved in the lungs. It has been slow growing (we're about a year out from finding the first lump) but her breathing is now compromised and steroid shot (which can throw kitties back into diabetes) has been given, and more may be on the horizon to keep her comfortable.
My question is: When a cat is terminally ill, how important is it to keep them in diabetes remission? I'm wondering specifically if I could start offereing her more tempting foods (still wet) but with more carbs to get her to eat and not worry so much about whether she will become diabetic again since we only have weeks-months left anyway. She's barely eating now on the low carb stuff. Though oddly those purebites chicken treats are super desirable still. Does anyone have any experience with this?

So sorry to hear the news of Molly's cancer

At this point, it's much more important that she eat and you really don't need to worry about the carbs....Of course if you can get her to eat enough low carb food, that's great, but it's more important that she eat enough to keep up her strength and quality of life than it is to worry about the diabetes

You can always resume insulin if necessary. We always say to treat the most severe disease first and adjust the insulin as needed to compensate
