I am having a challenging time getting my little girl to transition completely to Fancy Feast caned food. She asks to be fed but then stops eating after only a few bites and licks. Later, I sometimes notice her eating a small amount of Purina DM dry food that is left out for our other kitty. She has lost about 3 pounds since this diabetes thing began a few months ago and now weighs less than 7 pounds. Prior to the diabetes, she only ate dry food and nibbled at it as she was hungry. Her BG readings are still very high and I know the canned food is a better idea, but I fear that she is starving. Should I discontinue the dry food completely? Less than a week ago, our vet lowered her ProZinc dose slightly, as she had a couple of very low afternoon BG numbers, likely because she wasn't eating enough prior to insulin. Instead of one dose once a day, she now gets a slightly lesser amount via two doses, 12 hours apart. I feed her prior to each injection and often force feed with my finger when she refuses her food. Now she runs from me when she sees me coming toward her. This is so depressing. We used to be best friends, but not any more.
