Can hairballs cause high BGL?

In all my years of dealing with Stormy Blue and his diabetes, I have yet to have this issue. As many of you know, he was on insulin five years ago for a number of months, then went OTJ and remained diet controlled for over 4 years. In February, he had to go back onto insulin as his number has reached the point where he was over 200 on a regular basis and he had dropped over a pound of weight - something a tiny boy like him cannot safely do. And no, his diet had not really changed, (primarily he eats Evo cat & kitten and Friskies SD pates + 1T Evo kibble per day), and all of his blood tests came back fine and his check-up was fine.

Anyway, he started out on micro doses - 1 drop, then 2 drops, etc. until he was at .4u Lantus BID slowly, snail paced dose increases. He has been at .4u for over a month now and doing well on it. However, for the last couple of days, his PS #s were 300-360 and his nadirs did not drop to below 170. HIGHLY unusual for him as normally his PS#s are just over 200. His nadir is almost always around 50-60 at +4.5 to +5, and then he starts to creep back upward. It was at the point where I was considering an increase to .6u tonight. AND he had been hiding out in the bathroom acting not himself the last 2 days. (ketones are negative)

So, yesterday he vomited once and today he vomited twice. Rather big hairballs each time....again, very unusual for him as his "treat" for being a good boy for his daily subQ poke and multiple daily ear pokes and twice daily insulin pokes is a thorough brushing.. so the boy is brushed multiple times per day - and he is short coated. Long story short, he is now at +14 and he is only @ 103! And yes, he has been eating - like a pig - all day! Could those hairballs have been percolating in his stomach for the last couple of months and caused his BGL to have gone so high the last couple of days? And maybe, just maybe - could they have caused this slow creep of BGL where he had to return to insulin?

Yes, any stress can cause high BG and bad hair balls could do that but I can't Imagine it would impact him for that long.but you might want to pick up some hairball remedy or use Vaseline to help him pass them

. Also keep an eye on his BG still.

Thanks, Wendy. I went to poke him again, but he is eating right now so I will wait a bit longer to test again. With the speed which he drops on his insulin, I don't dare dose him unless he hits 150, or higher tonight - or I shall not sleep a wink :-/
