Cami is not feeling well (3-4) Update - does not look good

Late Sat I noticed increased resp rate and yesterday I timed it at 48/min. Just now it was 60/min. Last night her breath was audible - not mouth breathing or wheezing, but like a clicking noise. I am not hearing that this morning though. Also, I think she has a fever because she is feels warm on my chest when I pick her up. Her nose is cool.

I tested her and, unfortunately, she was 183 so I shot a .1u dose of insulin. Her appetite is good. She is drinking water.

Anyway, I am taking her to the vet now.

Re: Cami is not feeling well (3-4)

It's bad.

Looks like metastatic lymphoma. Her belly is full of fluid. On xray you can't see the margins of her organs (liver, kidneys, stomach). Her lungs do not have fluid, but there is some suggestion of spots/shadows there and both vets think it could indicate lesions or enlarged lymph nodes. I took her for an ultra sound and that looks even more like lymphoma with thickened intestines, enlarged liver and kidneys. I don't think kidneys enlarge without cancer. She has also dropped weight even while her belly is full of fluid. Her weight was just over 6.5 lbs, down from 7.4 in Nov. The vet can not definitely dx lymphoma without biopsies and Cami is too fragile for anesthesia. She is home, after a few hours in oxygen (which helped) and with Baytril and Prednesilone. I am supposed to also get Pepcid.

Do cushings or acro cats go into remission even for a short time? I know the organ enlargement can be acro and the belly distention can be cushings. She has some other poss characteristics that I have always wondered about: thin skin, thinning fur, large lower jaw, huge appetite.

This poor girl. She was just beginning to come out of her shell. And now this.

Please send some good thoughts her way - and/or prayers.

Acro's can go OTJ. I believe Carolynn's Fletcher went OTJ three times.
Keeping you and Cami in my thougths and prayers.

Sheila,

Can they frain the fluid out of her belly? I know they did it from aorund Onyx heart and lungs and they didn't have to put him under for that. If they can then that fluid can be stained and looked at to see if you have cancer. That is how they dxed Onyx because they didn't want to put him under while he was already having breathing issues.

Apparently, aspirating abdominal fluid is much more dangerous than chest fluid. They can go into shock. But they could get enough for a test - although it might not be conclusive.

I left a message on their answering machine about Acro/Cushings and is that was a possibility. But they would have to get more blood for different tests for that, I think.
