Cami is going in the wrong direction

She was 389 this am. I switched pens and went back to .5u. My schedule has been so busy that I have been gone during the time that I need to get (what I think are) the best spot checks, but she seems to be just high and flat. It's so strange after that initial, beautiful response to insulin. I do not think I reduced her too much or too soon, She held those lovely numbers on .25u for quite a while.

She is also having "worse" behavioral issues like peeing on my LR carpet and I can't get a signal purr out of her with any amount of sweet, gentle talk, brushing (which she is reported to love) or neck scratching. She is just plain mad all the time. I am working with JennF, Venita and DCIN to set up a session with Dawn Allen. I hope that will give me some information that I can use to help her. And I will be taking her to the vet for the hyperT check.

So, continued good thoughts for her would be appreciated - and I know they will help.

Right after I posted that I went to the kitchen and gave her a few scritches on the neck. No purrs just a little whining meow. I rinsed out my coffee mug and sat down next to her and kept stroking her head. Eventually, she started purring, so I out her in my lap and she kept purring and put her head in the crook of my arm. I must have sat there for at least 10 mins before I had to get up (I was late for an appt). I slid myself across the floor on my butt so I could reach a food dish on the counter without disturbing her - and as soon as she saw the dish she jumped off and ran to it.

There is the potential there. I just don't seem to be able to tap into it very effectively.

Sheila,

So sorry to hear that you're having problems with Cami. Especially the peeing outside of the litter box. :(

I hope her high numbers were caused by ineffective insulin, and not something else. (((HUGS)))

Could she have a UTI? Maybe that is the LB issue. Missy only ever peed outside the box when she had a UTI..and that could explain her numbers, too.

I have a vet appt for Friday and UTI/crystals is one thing I will have her check on. The woman that is an animal behaviorist who works with DCIN (Not the AC, Dawn Allen) suggested that as well. I have not dealt with UTIs in any of my cats for over 20 years, and never in a diabetic, let alone a newly adopted and rehomed one.

So the detective work continues with her. Her numbers are horrid. I am planning on getting a full curve tomorrow and upping the dose, again, in the evening.

We are hoping Cami gets figured out- she must feel crummy right now and lets it be known.

Now you have to find out just what she feels crummy about.
