Let me get the numbers out there, then I will tell the tale of two tails!

Callie Mae
amps 158
+4 86
no insulin

Rocky
amps 318
+4 283
.6u

First, I have to thank Kim for keeping us all up last night. If it weren't for her episode, who knows how long this would have continued. ;-)

Since the first day Rocky arrived at my house, he found himself a "safe spot" where he likes to go and sleep. This spot is under the kitchen sink. He just opens the door with his paw and crawls way in the back.
This is something new to Callie Mae. She has never figured out how to do such things. She would rather *stare* at a door and have the magic door fairy come open it for her, being the princess that she is and all.
Well, when DH came home from work last night (11pm, est) he was in the kitchen making a snack. I was on my laptop in the living room.
I looked over in the kitchen and noticed the door under the sink kinda cracked open a bit. I knew it wasn't Rocky, he had already gone to bed. Under the bed. So I asked hubby, did you have that cupboard door open?
He replied, No, I think it's Callie Mae.
Hummm, I thought. She must be watching Rocky and learning a few things.
So I decide to go in the kitchen and open the door and ask her what's she doing. You know how we all do. That kitty-baby talk.
Well, to my surprise, there she sat, ON an old bag of KIBBLE that had been shoved so far back in the cupboard that it must have been buried by all the plastic bags we keep under there for our recyclables. It had to have been there for quite some time, as I haven't purchased that brand in at least 5-6 months.

At any rate, THIS is why my little darling hasn't been wanting to eat! AND why her numbers are so high.
And here I thought, all this time, she was stressed out because of Rocky.
In fact, after reviewing her SS last night, I *think* I know when she first started getting into the bag. Her stomach wasn't used to it anymore and I noticed a little runny poo in her box one day. And it wasn't long till she was hitting the yellows and getting injections.

Needless to say, I pulled EVERYTHING out of that cupboard last night to make sure there wasn't so much a 1 little crumb of dry kibble under there. The little sh*!
And I'm SURE Rocky has had jis fill too.
So now I know I need to really get some good readings on him since I'm sure the dry wasn't helping with trying to get him regulated.

Anyway, that's my story.
Nice, huh?

Rocky is down to 281 @ +9

With the dry food factored out, is this an inverse curve and the .6 is possibly to much?
I know folks will be on later, but I wanted to throw it out there now, just to bounce a few theories around.
From taking a quick glance at his SS, it looks to me that on the 25, he managed to hit the blues once during the cycle and then just surfed in yellow the following day.
So, by that, maybe .4 is too low but .5 *might* just be right?
Seems like 1 drop wouldn't make much of a difference, but............

It’s frustrating and funny when they are naughty like that.
Hopefully things will get better for you without the secret kibble.

They can be quite sneaky! I bet she's sad now that you found her out! I have no idea on the dose though...sorry!

I don't think she's sad.
But man, you should have seen her face when I opened that door and looked at her.
I expected to see her just curled up in the back.
She was sitting on the bag, her face hanging over a clawed open hole, and her eyes got as big as saucers!
She KNEW she was doing something she shouldn't of been. Like a kid getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

I shot Rocky .5 to see how he does with that. I will probably be up late enough to test all the way to +6, or at least +4.
His pmps # was 268.
What a weird curve today.
Can't wait for Joanna to get on so she can take a look and give me some feedback.
Not that I don't appreciate ALL of you. I just have a way of understanding things a little more clearly sometimes by the way she explains stuff.
I'm kinda like that *specail* kid we all remember from school.

Not Joanna but my 2 cents.

First, don't think I have congratulated you on Rocky! What a wonderful gift you have given him! He could be still alone and sad or with someone who has no idea how to deal with his diabetes.

Wonder if both their numbers are influenced by the naughty food? I think your .5 is fine. It would be so nice to get Callie Mae down again. (anti jinx)

Welcome home Sue.

I don't think the curve was inverse because his mid cycle tests never went above his PS but definetly flat.

I'm glad you went with the .5u. Especially since they lost their stash. :o

Its is so funny how sneaky they can be!!
little stinkers..well hopefully you will get much better numbers now!
sorry cant help with the advice

Hi Sue!
How was the convention?

I feel good about the .5 too.
Will see. I am going to do a +3 at 10:30 EST to see if there's anything going on.
Don't think I have any data for a +3 and from the other times I get, it appears to me that he has early nadir's.
Wow, did I just say that? :-D
Ask me a month ago, and I would have thought you were saying something to me in a foreign language!
And since I barely know what any of this means, I might be coming off like those people that use big words when they don't know the meaning. +3 may be to early to see *anything*.

Callie Mae's eating habits have returned to normal and so has her nice low numbers!

edited for spelling errors. And I almost just misspelled spelling........lol

Sounds good to me. I think some kitties move up for that +2 -+3 and then start down. But there is that ECID thing. It would be so much easier if they all reacted the same!

It was grandchildren and I have the pictures to prove it! Wish there was a PZI convention, and that the presenters would give us some good info!

Oh wow, sneaky sneaky kitties!!!!!! I can totally picture her when you caught her in the act - hilARious!!!!

And thanks for the compliment! :YMHUG: It is nice to know my babbling is helpful. I have been known to overexplain at times.

I think the dose is really just an unknown at the moment, especially if he has been scarfing the dry food too. I would probably just hold at 0.5 and keep gathering data until it's clearer.

That is too funny that her not wanting to eat was b/c she had already been partying elsewhere! That didn't cross my mind, I was jumping right to "mysterious undiagnosed ailment", LOL. What a relief! I tell you, they hunt that dry food down like nobody's business! She probably doesn't like Rocky b/c he doesn't always leave the door open when he's done!!! ohmygod_smile

I couldn't help myself.
I don't have the patience for this. I had to do a little pokey pokey on Rocky because my curiosity was getting the best of me.
+2 218.

I was thinking about Callie Mae.
First, how lucky I am to be able to regulate her with diet.
Which led my thinking that her dry food diet must be solely responsible for her insulin need. Take away the dry, take away the insulin.
Which causes me to wonder, how many others are out there with a dx that could go in remission if only bean would make the switch?
And lastly, is this rare?
Of the thousands of people that find their way here, how many of them are as lucky as I?

Oh yeah, we see people come back because they started feeding a small amount of dry thinking it was ok, and their OTJ kitties end up back on insulin. It is amazing what even a couple bites can do. I think they say about 1/3 of cats will go OTJ pretty easily with a diet change, and 1/3 with a little more work? Callie Mae (1st time around) was certainly one of the quicker kitties I've seen to go OTJ, but not rare really.

You know what they say about that dry food..its like kitty crack, they crave it!
Funny story about Callie Mae and Rocky and their secret "stash". I laughed picturing her sitting on the bag with the deer caught in the headlights look.
Maybe Rocky will see a nice improvement now w/o the dry food.
