Hi all.
It's been a long time since I have posted on the board. I keep regular checks (roughly once a month) on my sugar baby, and everything has been fine.
On Christmas Eve I checked her and she was at 102 around 11:30 in the morning.
I notice today she had some dandruff flakes, which I know can be a symptom, so I got out the old trusted ReliOn and sure enough, at 2:30 this afternoon her BG was 234. I checked myself just for accuracy and then tested her again and she was at 198.
So, I gave her a F.4 of the PZI (compounded) I have had all this time. I'm not sure if it's any good. It was clear in the fridge and after rolling it, it had a nice milky appearance. It "looked" ok, but I'm sure that doesn't mean anything.
I checked her at +1.5 and she is at 166 so it doesn't appear that she has come down a lot, but that's a little early. I will check her again prolly around 5:30 (+3).

Maybe time to put the dancing shoes back on. I'm going to check her ketones as soon as she goes, just curious if there is anything I should be checking for. She is on a FF diet and doesn't seem to want any water.
I am probably going to go ahead and call in a prescription for another vial of the PZI since this is so old.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
When was the last time she ate before you gave that shot?

Hi Carl!
She was fed around 9:30. She got a 3 oz. can of FF but she didn't eat it all. Only about half or a little over a half.

You might want to check and see if FF has changed its formula due to the economy.
Personally I have been using Wellness and Merrick as my mainstay.
I am trying EVO chicken and turkey formula this week.
Petpartners sells EVO 13.2 oz cans for around 1.78. That works out just about 13.48 an oz. Its 4 carbs.

As for as other advice I will defer to our pro's that have helped Kitty so much.

Well, @ +3 she is at 115 and I just gave her half a can of food. If her pancreas is working, that should push her into the green.
All i can do now I guess is wait and see what happens. If she goes back up after eating, then I guess I'll call in that prescription tomorrow and go from there.
I'll have to also call tomorrow to find out if they have changed the food formula.
Maybe she's just got a bug. :?

Thanks,
I was trying to see if food needed to be figured into the equation with regard to the numbers. Doesn't appear to be a factor.

As for the FF, we had a discussion a few months back when Friskees changed some of the ingredients because there were a lot of kitties who wouldn't eat the "new" label friskees or were suddenly not feeling well. I called Purina and was assured that nothing had changed with the Fancy Feasts, so as long as you are feeding the "classics", they are all still low carb, most in the 3-5% carbs range.

I am guessing the PZI you have is no longer good. I know the two vials I bought, the best expiration date I could get was 4 months. If you have had it that long, it is probably not very useful. I'd hate to see you have to buy a whole vial now though, especially if this is just a bump in the road.

Is there any way Callie Mae got into anything "bad" for her? No dry in the house? Dog food? We had one cat on the board whose numbers went up for a short time with no explanation. Turned out kitty was eating litter! "World's Best Cat Litter", which is corn based. A change in litter made the high numbers go away!

One thing you can try is what some people do when doing an OTJ trial. Feed her, check her BG within the first hour or two and see if the food boost shows up, then check again about an hour later and see if it comes down any which would indicate that her pancreas is at least trying to do the job of producing insulin.

If her numbers continue to climb, then unfortunately it might be time to call for that new vial. You can also check Binky's list to see if there is a lower carb FF flavor that might help or at least not hinder her own body trying to produce enough insulin...

I am so sorry tohear she might be back on the juice!
I have everything crossed that she will go back down and not need insulin
maybe she just got into something!

I hope maybe she just got a bug.
i gave her a "snack" at +3 (she was 115) at +4 she was at 125.
She hasn't been outside all day, and there is nothing in the house she could have eaten. I have no dry food at all, and my emergency H/C foods are canned.
Her current diet consists of the 4 carb chicken and 3 carb beef. Those are the only flavors she gets.
Still waiting for her to go to the bathroom. She hasn't urinated all day.
I appreciate the responses. I will probably monitor her for a couple days and see what happens. Her insulin is only $60, but if I only need a unit or 2, that would be such a waste. But, if that's what I have to do, then of course I will do it.
Thanks again, guys.
I will keep you posted.

My guess is that she saw you get out the box of ketostix, and she's bound and determined not to be chased around by the crazy lady with the stix!

Keep us posted,

It's good that you caught it early, I'm sorry you might have to come back but at least you already know the dance steps.

Keep us posted.
