Calley's urine test....question

So the vet said that Calley's urine test show evidence of diabetes. Does that mean there were ketones in the pee? What does it mean that the urine indicated diabetes. I thought blood tests is what showed high bg levels.

i think he just means there was sugar in her urine not necessarily ketones. whenever i test Tibbs for ketones i use the ketodiastix which checks for ketones and for sugar level. His ketones have been negative but his urine always shows some spilled sugar in the urine. The body is trying to get rid of the sugar so it gets spilled out into the urine. At least, that's the way i understand it.
 
did he say she had ketones?? testing for ketones in pretty easy at home. just pick up the ketone test strips at walmart or any pharmacy and i slip a flat plate under tibbs' butt and you just dip the stick in the urine and 15 seconds later you can read if there are ketones. i would just clarify with the vet if they said there were ketones in the urine. if there were ketones, hopefully they would have told you and gave info on how to treat it.
 
Nope, the vet did not mention anything about ketone. I just was worried if there was sugar in the pee, if I needed to do anything about it.
 
oh ok. no as long as the blood sugar numbers are high,sugar will be spilling into their urine. Just have to keep hoping the insulin will start to do it's job
