Calley's AM BG was 330....think she got some dry food

Well I think Calley has become an acrocat. I found evidence that she was jumped up to a high buffet table and got into my second cat's bowl of dry kibble. I know it wasnt' the second cat as he is too fat/has no interest in exerting energy to get at food.

So now I think that Calley's high BG of 330 this morning at 9am was due to her eating some dry food. How much you ask.....I have no clue.

I wish I had found the evidence before I gave her .5 dose of insulin.

Would a meal of dry food shot the BG up so quickly after eating it? Though I have no clue when in the night she ate it....anytime between midnight and 9am.

Yup, dry can drastically up bg. It would be best to either put all your cats on wet, to prevent other kitties from becoming diabetic, or switch to one of the recommended dry foods for diabetics....either EVO cat & kitten, Young Again zero carb, or stellas freeze dried. I'd still stick with the .5 units and see what she does.
 
I will look into the low carb dry foods you mentioned. Thanks for info.

So you think while I'm gone I should have Calley on .5/2x daily? Just to be sure?
 
It is usually better to have a cat too high rather than too low.
Without past BG and dose dat I can't say if 1/2 unt twice daily is OK during your trip
 
When are you leaving? and does both pet sitters know the signs of hypo. I would keep a close eye on her numbers before you leave. This could just be because of the food, and her numbers could return to normal especially with the 4 mini meals
 
Leaving first thing tomorrow morning. I will test again a few more times today. This AMBG was the highest it has been in a week.
 
No advice from me, BUT I can say from experience (last night's cycle) that the type of food makes a HUGE difference.

If you look at Skooter's spreadsheet, up until his PM cycle last night he was either getting all dry or a combo of dry and wet....last night was his first full night of all wet and he spent most of his night in blue....even today he is recovering from his bounce very nicely!

The glucose can shoot up if the insulin took it too low OR brought it low too fast. We'd call it a bounce.
