Caesar wasn't doing too well at 40 last night in the emergency vet clinic. They gave him I.V. Dextrose...

He did a pretty good job responding to it. Soon he was up to 133 and ready to go home...

Caesar would like to thank you all from his favorite blanket. He is very grateful for all the support! :)

Hi Caesar!

My name is Bob, and I used to have the diabetes just like you do. Lucky for me, my dad found this place, and now I am all better and healthier than I have been my whole life. I love canned food, and don't miss the dry food at all. I had to go to the emergency room too, for three days and three lonely nights, but then they sent me home, my Dad gave me all sorts of pokes all over the place, and I didn't know why, but then he gave me treats all the time after every time he poked me. Every time he did, I felt better and better, and one day he just stopped poking me with sharp things. But I still get treats so how could life get any better???

The beans here will help your bean any time help is needed, and soon you will feel a lot better too.

Nice to meet you, and welcome to the sugardance!

Hello Riot (?) andCaesar,
I read your post for the hypo incident.
What a rough difficult time for you and pregnant too.

I thought I would give you a copy of my shortcut shopping list so you can find some foods out there that aren't too
high for a diabetic cat. Later on you'll be able to find even more off of the janet/binky's list.

It is difficult to go against your vet but you mentioned several times that you knew something wasn't right .
Too many vets give patients the insulin and instructions and say come back in a few weeks.
That's the old way of treating diabetes in pets, especially dogs which happen to be what more vets have experience
with.
If your vet really gives you a hard time about monitoring, then you might want to find a new vet.
You are the customer and you aren't paying them to harm your pet or be condescending to you for wanting better
care.
Some vets are willing to learn the latest techniques and some aren't.

Diabetes for humans and pets needs daily monitoring so that the caregiver can take appropriate measures
when things go wrong. Without that daily monitoring it is very dangerous for the patient as you learned the hard way.

You will find so many people here who want to help you and will help break it down into manageable steps .
It can be very overwhelming but we've been there too and we know how hard it is which is why so many of us
want to help you too.

Welcome to fdmb!

I was just going to bed and remembered no one had told you about Caesar's leg problems and how to help that.

As for the leg problems, Neuropathy. Many of us are using B-12.
If you hunt for it elsewhere, make sure it is methylcobalmin. Not all b12's
are the same.

Vitacost Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 60 Capsules
http://www.amazon.com/Vitacost-Vita...5000/dp/B006U8QZAK/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20

A commonly given dose here is 3 mg -5 mg.
B vitamins are water soluble and any excess is excreted in the urine.

the bottle above is 5000mcg which is the same as 5 mg. You can empty the whole capsule and mix in with the canned food or use part of it if you prefer the 3 mg dose

Thank you all again! I just wanted to reiterate that I did indeed do in-home blood glucose readings, otherwise he probably would've definitely been in far more trouble. I'm currently talking with his vet right now, so I'll keep everyone posted.
