Buying Insulin Online From Canada

I am curious, because I saw this mentioned in another post. Who here gets their insulin from Canada online? What brands do you use? How have you liked them, and what have the costs been? I am using Vetsulin because I am a single, broke college student, and couldn't afford the $400 name brand insulin my vet mentioned (I don't remember the name).

I have noticed Taz has the highest numbers in the morning before breakfast. I find this interesting because I have also read on here that most cats go low at night. I wonder if this is different for Taz because I work swing shift and she usually hangs out with me at night and sleeps while I am gone during the day. I have also heard Vetsulin can wear off faster than other brands.

If you all know of a better resource where you can order better quality insulin online for cheaper than what a U.S. Veterinarian can offer, I am all ears!! ^..^

My vet sells me Vetsulin for $45.

I'd guess that of those of us that are active here, at least 75% of us are getting our Lantus or Levemir from Canada (sounds like your vet probably mentioned Lantus...also known as glargine)

Marks Marine Pharmacy in Vancouver has been absolutely fantastic about both prices and customer service and you can't ask for more honest people

Here's all the information in this "Insulin from Canadian Pharmacies" post. I try to keep the information there updated as necessary regarding price.

A 5 pack of Lantus pens is 1500 units....which is enough to last most cats well over a year and in some cats up to 2 years, so it ends up breaking down to $8-$15 month

Also, be aware of the possibility of a strike from Canada Post....we're keeping this information updated as much as possible too

It's true that most cats go lower at night, but it's also true that the AMPS number is usually the last number to come down....that's due to something called "Dawn Phenomenon" where in the early hours of the morning it's normal for their to be a surge of hormones that cause the AM number to be higher....that doesn't mean the cat isn't going lower at night though...this "surge" is usually in the 4-5am time range

Did you say "after breakfast"? Whenever they eat it drives up their numbers. We test before feeding and giving insulin, I think you will get lower numbers before breakfast.
