I don't know what happened. Yesterday morning he seemed fine and content. I gave him the option of going outside, or staying in yesterday and he opted to stay inside.
When I finally got home last night I noticed that his fur looked pretty scruffy and that he was walking different. It seems like he is walking with his butt tucked under a little bit so that he looks hunched in the back. He ate a normal dinner, his pmps was around 260, so I shot, and he went to bed (under my bed- my troll kitty).
A while latter, I was putting the baby to bed, DH told me that Buster was under the bed and growled when he (DH) entered the room. DH got him out from under the bed and noticed that anytime he touched near Buster's hips and back near the base of the tail Buster would growl.
DD just woke up at 2:30am, as I was putting her back to bed I heard Buster growl in the kitchen, then less than a minute later I heard him growl under my bed. It seems that every time he gets up or lays down he growls.
Thankfully I am home today, I was planning to do a curve. Our regular vet, that i really liked, moved about a 1/2 hr away... I am going to call 1st thing when they open to see if I can get him in with her.
I've been planning to put him on the methyl-b12, but have not had a chance to get any yet, so I will also try to hit our local health food store to try to get some today.
I just don't know what could have changed so drastically when he was inside all day yesterday. Any ideas what could be causing his pain??? DH (always trying to be helpful) says he's probably got a squirrel bone stuck in his butt ohmygod_smile

I can only offer you hugs and sending good vet visit vines to Buster. I hope it is something easy to fix and he feels all better again soon. Poor kitty.

Yes could be a number of things. Glad your seeing the vet and hope its an easy fix. Last time Spike growled like that he irritatated his arthritus in his front leg from jumping. I did get pain meds.

I sure hope you can get in to see the vet; there are so many things that could be the problem, it would be impossible to do more that guess here.

I know things can happen fast - one minute all seems fine, then the next you've got a growly guy in obvious pain.
My Shadoe had her p-titis come on fast and made her quite sick quickly.

The vet would be the best to help Buster quickly.

Sending prayers your way that Buster's pain is not bad and can be taken care of. Good luck at the vet!!

AWWW!! Poor Buster!--Sounds like he may have hurt his back--Ask for Xrays if vet doesnt feel anything by exam--
Sending Healing Vines to Poor Buster--Get better quick !!

PLEASE get him to the vet right away. I don't think it is something that just happened, I think it is possibly something that has been going on and is reaching the point of needing serious attention. I'm going to PM you too.

I agree with D here......I think if you cannot see your vet first thing you may want to take him to the ER vet if there is one close by.
Feel better Buster. cat_pet_icon

I hope your vet can figure out what is wrong with Buster and it's a quick fix. Get better Buster!

We are dealing with similar symptoms here this week. Pain at the base of the tail. I initially thought it was a pancreatitis or IBD flare-up (he's got increased BG too), but after an ultrasound, his GI track looks no worse than usual, we did blood work (no sign of infection), x-rays (everything looks alright), external exam (obvious pain when manipulating near base of tail), and rectal exam (nothing unusual)... we're no further ahead. Seems like it must be some sort of soft tissue damage, but I have absolutely no idea what happened. He's on buprenorphine for at least a week, we'll see what happens after that. He does seem to be feeling better on the pain meds. A bit sleepy, but not in obvious pain anymore.

Are his bg numbers up?

Our regular vet is not working today, and will not be in until Sunday. I will go ahead and take him to our local vet. I'll post updates after the visit. I've gotta try to get him out from under the bed to test, feed and shoot so that we can get ready to go.

Sending healing vines for Buster and (((((((for you)))))). I'm hoping he just got a little too playful outside yesterday.
Will check your posts later.

Just back from the vets. Luckily a fecal test and deworming were covered with the wellness plan, so I was able to get him checked out after the squirrel eating antics. I also got bupe for his pain. She said she thought he could have arthritis or slight fractures, but of course could not say for sure without x-rays. Those injuries could be in line with him jumping the fence the last couple months that I have been allowing him outside. Basically I will treat him for the worst case scenario, minus the x-rays. I asked her what the treatment would be for fractures, and she said just limited mobility... so I will try that in conjunction with the bupe. She said for arthritis they would just give glucosamine/msm. so I am going to order it online... cheaper.

Now that I've gotten him 'cleaned up' (deworming) I am going to give him a bath tonight and keep him indoors again- no more jumping fences.

Did they give you plenty of bup to take home? How much are you giving? Does he seem to be more comfortable now?

The scripts I get for bup are usually... .3ml every 8 hrs, i think.

((Buster))

poor little man!

Hi Cyn. Buster has 3ml every 12 hrs. I haven't given it to him yet... I need my husband to help. Buster has a very large head, and I have very small hands. I wish bupe came in a pill- buster usually wolfs down pills in his wet food and never even notices.

Oh I hope he starts to feel better once the Bupe gets on board. ((((hugs to you both)))) No more squirrel catching!

I hope you mean .3 ml, not 3 ml. How much does Buster weigh? Please do not give 3 ml.

I certainly hope it is 0.3ml and not 3ml

I don't have good luck with the bup either, but I just cross my fingers. All that "give under the tongue" part of the instructions cracks me up. I'm lucky if it goes into his mouth and not all over me.

Hoping Buster is feeling better!

I'm just now catching up, what a scary day! I'm glad you got him to the vet and got some meds to make him feel better.

FYI, you'll want to deworm again in 2 weeks. That is about how long the egg cycle is and a second deworming will get any eggs that weren't hatched yet this time.

oh good grief - does it really say to give it under the tongue?! I didn't see *that* in my instructions @-)
umm, yeah, I'm lucky to get the syringe in his mouth long enough to squirt it in... then hopefully hold his mouth shut for a few seconds  Give me pills or injections any day (oh wait, we do those daily too)... liquids, not so much!
(I do wrap him in a towel to do this, there would be no way otherwise)
