Yellows, blues AND a couple greens! But the biggest news is midday ketone test result = LO. We have never gotten this result before. Wow, what a difference a day makes... :)

Suzanne, as discussed, I'm with ProZinc for a bit longer so will still be posting here for dosing guidance.
That being said...
This is only the 4th cycle at 17u so I'll be holding the dose. Am I understanding correctly that since he did not go below the reduction point of 70, he did not earn a reduction anyway?

Woohoo! Love the ketones = LO. :)

I wouldn't drop his dose for just one cycle with higher green. Having said that, he went a little lower than he did on the previous dose greens.

Is he having a better cycle today? Last time he started with a similar yellow AMPS he had a better cycle— I am hoping he will today.

We've had a few crappy days of high numbers but, yes, yellows and a blue so far! I'm hoping that he has some more. Thanks for checking on us!!

Quick question: Since Buster has been off dry food, he has become a tartar monster (vet's words). I guess less friction allows for more tartar/plaque build-up. We use enzymatic toothpaste on his gums but it doesn't seem like it's keeping up. With all he's been through, I don't want him to need a teeth cleaning every year.

I saw in older posts that you once used 1-TDC. Are you still using it? Is it safe for diabetic cats? I see it has carob in the ingredients...

I was just thinking about this again this morning when I am not so tired. I seem to recall that a lot of people on tanya’s CKD support group feed chicken gizzards to their cats because it’s supposed to help with cleaning their teeth. (And now I see Wendy has mentioned that she has done this too.)

Frankly, I think the whole thing about dry food cleaning cat’s teeth is very outdated thinking — which is of course promoted by the pet food manufacturers who pay for the education of veterinarians— yep, they actually have paid for vet school for vets that I personally know. How can chewing kibble which doesn’t make contact with the gum line on the outer side (the buccal side) “clean” anything off of teeth? Perhaps it can do something for the lingual side, but most likely it is the biting and chewing surfaces of the molars that are in contact with the kibble. There could be something about the chemistry of the mouth, however, that contributes to tartar buildup. Dr. Lisa Pierson has always maintained that the kibble cleaning teeth assertion is false. Anyway, I understand your concern about having his teeth cleaned (the anesthesia). I mentioned the Entero which is made by Veterinarian Recommended Solutions. I would ask your vet about it as well to see if she/he has heard of it.

Is the vet thinking Buster needs a dental done soon? Or is he just thinking that he will need one in the future? It’s great that you are using the enzymatic toothpaste.

Within a couple months of going off the dry, he was already getting a lot of tartar. That's when she called him a Tartar Monster. :-)
He had a dental in Oct 2024. But we can see it came back fast & furious. We upped his enzymatic toothpaste to 2x per day but I don't really think it's working. He has his annual physical next week so we will see what she says...

Thank you for the recommendations! We're going to check them out.

Thought it would be nice to share a bit of good news for a change. Buster gave me an amazing birthday gift today with his numbers! Best birthday gift ever!

They've been so good that I wasn't really sure they were true. But he's obviously feeling good today so I had hope. We confirmed with the AlphaTrak and, yes, they are real!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! That is soooo beautiful. Look at all those blues… not just today but last night all night and even the second half of the a.m. cycle! I am really happy to see this. I am not going to jinx anything by saying anything at all …. except to say how wonderful this is! Happy Birthday and Happy Easter!!
