My sugar cat just had two teeth pulled, and the vet gave us the choice between buprenorphine or onsior. I went with the bupe just because I've heard people on here talk about it, but I'm wondering what ya'll know about the onsior and if there are opinions on which one is better?

My knowledge is limited but I think that Onsior is an NSAID. Bupe is a narcotic - good pain killer but limited effect on the inflammation that's part of dental extractions. Human dentists are usually advocates of significant doses of ibuprofen for tooth pain.

Oh shoot! So I should have taken the other one? I'm sure I can go back and get it. The vet is only two blocks away.

When Buddy had his surgery his vet gave him Metacam, which is an anti-inflammatory and so is Onsior. Buddy has taken both of them and they work very well. But do not give Sam any over the counter anti-inflammatory's, because it could hurt him seriously.

When my cat had several teeth pulled last summer, the vet sent us home with Onsior and it really helped. The bupe made him really loopy so we didn't use it for very long. I'd suggest that you ask the vet for the onsior.

Did you decide to go back and get the Onsior, in some instance Buprenorphine might be a better choice, but I bet Onsior would probably help more with teeth extractions.

They said I can switch if I want to. Right now I'm mostly concerned that he didn't sleep all night or all morning so far. The vet said to call back around noon if he still hasn't fallen asleep. If that's the case, I'll likely pick up the Onsior later today. I do hope he falls asleep soon though! This is such a long time for a cat to go without sleeping!

I have never had that happen, you would think if he had buprenorphine it would make him sleepy.

I've heard bupe can make them pace, but he didn't get the bupe until a couple of hours ago. He had already been awake all night at that point. He's still awake. He is resting his chin now though, so I'm hopeful that maybe he's getting closer to falling asleep.

I hope he falls asleep soon, what does the vet say about this.
