Buprenex - How do you open the vials???

Or ampoules I should say......little glass bottles with a neck that you snap open. Vet tech said there was a trick to or it would shatter. An emergency had just come in and I didnt get a demonstration.....

You're supposed to be able to snap the top part off. Should have a thin neck, might be scored to help with that. You could also score it yourself with a knife if it isn't, loosely etch a mark on the thin neck part and that might help you snap it off.

Either way, be careful and try not to cut yourself.

It has a little blue dot on one side of the neck....maybe it is scored there? If it doesn't open right won't there be glass in it? I'm giving it orally ......

They are designed to snap off without creating any shards. Should be a clean break. When I order Bupe I make sure they get it in the vials like insulin, but yours is an emergency case so you couldn't do that. Try calling your vet and asking them if they've ever had an ampule break incorrectly.

To keep from cutting yourself take a piece of cloth like a 4x4 and hold the
top of the ampule and snap it off.
