I'm trying to decide on whether to use budesonide after my vet suggested it as a possible treatment. My experience with predisolone is that it sent Gus's blood sugar through the roof - although we are already very high. She said budesonide has less systemic effect and works mostly in the intestine - which is where he is showing inflammation.

If you have used budesonide did it raise your cat's blood glucose? Did it end up working for treat the problem and was your cat eventually able to go off of it?

Thank you for any input on your experience with this medication.

Didn't use it.

If he needs it to survive and it raises the glucose, then you just have to adjust your insulin doseage to accomodate it. There may or may not be a possibility of going off a steroid, depending on the condition(s).

I have used budesonide on two of my diabetic kitties, it had minimal effect of BG.
A good price is form Thriving Pets. Use the 3 MG capsules and then divide up the contents in to other capsules.

That's encouraging news about the minimal effect on the BG. We just started the metronizodole on Thursday, but so far there is no improvement with his BG. His appetite did improve though so it must be doing something, but I need for his glucose to get straightened up.
