Buddys swinging...raise dose?

I think - no.

It looks ot me as if Buddy is finally settling on the 1.2 and you are getting to see what it can actually do.

Also, Lev dosing is based on the lowest number in the cycle- the nadir or peak, not the highest.

Right now your lowest is 78 and that merits staying where you are with the 1.2 or lowering not raising the dose.

There are a few schools of thought on what to do where you are.

My personal action would be to lower the dose in order to lower the swing. I personally would rather have my cat go from 150 to 300 and back, than 50 to 400 and back. But that is me and what works for PK...he actually got a dose reduction earlier this week (see our last post for updated numbers) for this exact reason.

Others would call the 78 to 300 a bounce and say you are getting rebound from too high a dose and also suggest a dose reduction.

Still others would say that your Buddy is in liver training school and to rough out the bounces, tempering them with feeding (feed the lows to raise BG and even out the curve), or simply let them be experienced.

I'd suggest holding the dose for a few more cycles to see what happens, but see what others say. ;-)

hey...catch me up, here wuld ya?

Why did you guys go down from the 1.5 that was giving you blues and greens?

Also, what was going on back in the days when Buddy was getting almost solid greens? Has there been a change- age, illness, medications? I see you are giving Adequen and I vaguly remember a discussion about the potential for it to effect BG's....

And last, what is your feeding scheduel? Is it meal fed like 12/12 w/shot or before or is he free fed or other?

Just hoping to fill the picture in a little more for others that will post later and myself...

I still hold that if 78 is the lowest number in the cycle, you don't need to decrease the dose unless you want to lower that 78...but see what others say.

I don't see any real fast climbs and no fast drops. In the old days we used to look for changes of more than 100 points an hour - not sure if that applies to the longer acting insulins or not. Yesterday's rise from 78 was only about 60 points per hour - assuming a smooth rise and not a spike and then a flat curve. Food for thought.

Anyway, I would also say to hold the dose. It looks like 1.3 might have been just a tad too much, if you don't like 40s as a low. I do not, so I would have backed off on the dose myself as you did, but probably not to 1u. Something between 1u and 1.3u.

Give him a few more days and see if he can flatten out the highs by getting used to the lows. You'll be able to get more tests in over the weekend, right? That should give you more data to see what is happening.

The 78 is a nice nadir.

hey thanks everyone-as usual, i alwys get what i need here.
Forgot the change is based on Nadir, not high # good reminder.so i will hol d
the dose few more days , then go down ,not up,if need change.unfortunately i had to start a new vial of Lev this a., not good timing but had no choice, down to the green.
Quick review...dose reduced from 1.5 when he fell below 40 ...he hasn't any illnesses ,and it's just me and him, so he's pretty pampered, no stress (wish i had his life sometimes).basically he eats when evr he 's hungry.a spoon of raw rabbit, about
6-8 oz.a day.
