I've been used to Buddy being so high, that I really don't know what the normal sugar level is? What do I do? continue to test twice a day?? What is normal?

Normal is 40-120 without insulin. Buddy has definitely come down in dosage and is getting nice numbers. Congrats on all your testing and perseverance. To be declared as in remission, we think a cat should be in that 40 -120 range without insulin for 2 weeks.

If he were mine, I would lower the dose to avoid skipping. Being able to give 2 doses a day is ideal. So maybe 0.5 is a good dose on 180/250 if you can monitor and catch a low nadir if needed. I definitely would skip on numbers under 180 at this point.

Getting a curve so you know when he might be lowest and to see how low the 0.5 takes him would be wise. If you'd like some help with these smaller doses as he perhaps goes into remission, post daily with his levels and get dose advice. It might also be helpful to read some of the other threads. We have several kitties who are on small doses with low preshots.

And Buddy will certainly be an inspiration to those who are frustrated. You stuck it out with high numbers and he eventually dropped in level and dose. Fantastic!

Wow Buddy is looking great! The numbers are surely coming down. I agree with Sue. I think lowering the dose so you don't have to skip is best. That way, you can have 2 shootable preshots and hopefully bring Buddy even lower to the point of OTJ (anti jinx!).

Carole, are you using the U40 syringes, or have you gone to the U100 using the conversion table?

I only ask because Buddy is doing so beautifully, and when you get down to doses under 0.5U (and it's looking like you may be getting there pretty soon;)), those U100 syringes can really help you fine-tune those tiny doses. (On ProZinc I had her down to 0.10U - couldn't have done that with any accuracy without using that conversion table & the U100s.) Just a thought ... and will keep my fingers & toes crossed that Buddy's getting ready for an OTJ trial (***anti-jinx***).:)

Carole if you are thinkin of switching to the U100 syringes i highly recommend it. It is nice to get a precise small dose! Send me a PM if you'd like to try some before you buy a box. I got a box of 100 from walmart for $13 around 2 weeks ago, i have 80 or 90 left and can send you a bag of 10 to try if you want, its unopened. Hopefully I wont be needing them (anti-jinx!!) I plan on keeping a bag of them in case, but will put the rest on the supply closet in a few weeks, along with about 60 or 70 U40 syringes that I know i won't be needing.
