My cat Buddy is on ProZinc and has been since 12/26/2016. I am switching him to Lantus very soon. Currently Buddy is using 5.8u of Prozinc twice a day, with Prozinc u 40 insulin syringes are used. Would anyone have any idea as to what amount of Lantus that I would use for Buddy that would be similar to the dose he is now taking.

We usually start Lantus at a little lower than the dose they were on previously with another insulin

I'm not sure how you've been dosing ProZinc in those tiny increments though....Most U40 syringes only have whole unit markings (although there are a few that have half unit markings) so unless you've been using calipers, I'm not sure how you'd measure doses like 5.6 and 5.8 with any consistency

I have been using u-100 syringes, because I wanted to increase his dose in tiny increments. I think 5.8u of prozinc using a u-100 syringes is 14.5u.

Typically we start use the existing dose of Prozinc as a guide when starting Lantus. Then you could go a little lower if you want to be conservative, so maybe 5 units.

Is he still eating dry food regularly? We have had members find that the Glycobalance is rather higher carbs. Might want to update your subject line to what he is eating currently.

Thank you, for telling me a dose. Buddy has YA for cats & kittens, which he does not care for that much, I have ordered YA in the mature formula, which he does like. He is eating Glycobalance, he has been off and eating FF in the past, but will quit eating the FF and I have to put him back on the Glycobalance.

Glycobalance is wet, it does not raise Buddy's numbers when he eats it anymore than eating FF classic. Young Again is low carb dry food.
