Buddy is out of remission

Hi, Buddy and I are back.
For several years he was in remission and now he's not and I've forgotten most everything so I've got to get back into it.
He had been throwing up, not much appetite, and has lost weight. So we went to the vet on the 13th. She started him on 1.5 of Lantus. Plus she also gave him a Convenia inj. She was unable to get urine.
I wanted to put photos of his bloodwork here but can't.. I put it on the facebook group.
He is eating but only a small bit at a time. I need ideas of what could get his appetite up. I know he's peeing because I've seen him do it this morning, also mid day and yesterday at least once. His numbers until mid day today were staying in the 200's up to 260 something and down to the 230's but not out of the 200's (started out in the 300's).. the lantus pen doesn't do any .5 but the pharmacy person said to put it between the one and the 2.. I think I heard it click twice when I followed his order so it seems he got 2 units this morning? 7 or 8 hours later his reading was in the 150's so it's good to see something other than the 200's and 300's that I've seen since Monday. Another good thing is he hasn't thrown up again since going to the vet 2 days ago. He's being such a good boy but I'm pretty worried. He eat's friskies pate but I picked him up some Fancy Feast pate yesterday. I'm using the pet meter since our old human meter stopped working.

My Vet prescribed Miratz, it activates the appetite instantly, once a day in the top inner ear for 1 week, rub it in, like grain of rice amount exchanging ears daily for a week, just a suggestion, that worked wonder and still does for both Corky and Coco:bighug::cat::cat:
 
Hi and welcome back. Sorry Buddy is out of remission. If he’s not eating I would look at getting an antinausea medication such as ondansetron. It’s better than cerenia so ask the vet for ondansetron first.
Also test for ketones with Ketostix.

Are you offering lots of snacks as wel as the two main meals?

If you have a Lantus pen you can use syringes with it. I will put a picture below how to do it. You will need insulin syringes U100, 3/10ml, 30 or 31 gauge, 6 or 8 mm insulin syringes with 1/2 unit markings.

Please post the lab results. To do that just copy and paste them straight into this thread.

Every so often I'll offer his bowl (with fancy feast pate) to him and he will eat a few bites. I think I've pasted the labs correctly.
His last 3 readings were in the 100's He was 127 before his shot last night so I didn't give.. and this morning was 114 and I didn't give. The last check was 180 so going up but he may have just ate before that one. He may be getting insulin this evening but I am not sure I'd be comfortable giving it unless his reading is over 200.

Edit to add I checked again at 2:30 and he was 233.. so looks like I'll be giving him insulin later.

If nausea is an issue, you can also try things like elevating the food and water bowls a few inches, sometimes that helps.

I can see the bloodwork. I can't really interpret it except that I guess the vet did the convenia shot because of the low lymphocytes and a suspicion of some kind of infection? There seem to be several out-of-range values (wish they gave the normal ranges on this report, too, so you can see how out-of-range they are at a glance!), maybe someone who is better than I am about interpretation can suggest some things to ask the vet about.
 
What insulin are you giving? Lantus or ProZinc? Your signature say ProZinc but I have seen Lantus mentioned in this thread. If you are using a Lantus pen, then you need syringes to draw the dose out of the Lantus pen - and don’t put air into the pen.

Sorry to see that you and Buddy are back.

I would encourage you to get syringes. You want to get U100 3/10cc syringes with half unit markings. The pens do not reliably dispense insulin in less than 1.0u amounts. We raise and lower doses by 0.25u increments which the pens will not do. In addition, you need to prime the pen by dispensing insulin into the sink every time you shoot. You end up wasting a fair amount of insulin. You may need to ask your vet for a prescription for syringes or I think you can order syringes from Amazon without a prescription. (@Diane Tyler's Mom)

A couple of suggestions.
Could you leave a gap on your spreadsheet between your test data from 2019 and the current data? Get rid of the cells (you can merge them) and write in something like "2024 DATA".) I'm tagging Bhooma (@Bandit's Mom) if you need help.

There is also a page on the spreadsheet for lab data. I'm working on a laptop and it was a bit of a challenge to read your lab information. In addition, having it on the spreadsheet also means you can compare test results from different dates. If you look at Gabby's spreadsheet, the labs are on the tabs to the far right. (Look at Gabby's labs, not Gizmo's)
