Poor baby! Pepe and I are sending tons of healing vibes your way. I hope Buddy feels better soon. Why did they take all his teeth?

thanks alot! Vet said the canines are infected, and has rootten gums and being 16.5 y.o. this will be his last dental-so rather than wait till infection comes back she extracted them . hoping he will be better regulated. poor guy!

Without the canines to help grab food it would help Buddy if you raised his food dish up so he can grab the food easier. Also, add water and try to make it a little soupier and smoother. A UPS box, small size, with a dish towel over it makes a great way to raise food dishes up. He needs to go into the food rather then bending down and trying to pick it up.

if he appears to be in pain, you may want to give him half the bupe every 6 hours instead of waiting 12 hours and one dose....it's what i did with Buster and seemed to help.

Excellent suggestions! i will pick absolutely lift up his dish , and give half dose of Bup more often...thanks for all the help and support!
makes a huge differece when i think I am not going thru all this alone.

Ricky recently had to have all of his teeth extracted except for 2 canines. They put a pain patch on him that he wore for about a week and gave him antibiotics.

He is doing so much better since they were extracted. His BG levels have dropped some and he seems to have more energy and is more playful. It will take a few days, but Buddy will feel much better.

Lisa -did they give you AB's to give him at home? if so, was it to treat a current infection, or as a preventive?
I am trying to fugure out if i should give Buddy AB's..the vet said she got 97%of infection, but hard to tell by xrays if it's 100%, so he should
take the meds, but i read it should not be used as a preventive measure.
not sure what to do b/c the vet is not 100% cetain she got it all(except for what can be seen in x-ray).

After pulling so many teeth, and the vet not certain all infection was removed, I'd do the antibiotics. The last thing he needs is sepsis.

How are his glucose values doing - infection is like to increase them, so its another way to see clue in on hidden infection.

Were you able to give Teddy an AB by pilling him?

Hmmm... this was a couple of years ago. I don't recall giving him anything afterward but Buprenex (liquid in a syringe, shot into the cheek pouch) for pain. He didn't act like he was hurting much, if at all, though. He was gumming and swallowing chunks of chicken at dinner that same evening.

Stella (civvie) got a bunch of teeth out last month, and likewise recovered very well and did not seem to be in pain. Again, just the Bupe. I don't recall whether they gave her an antibiotic shot- they might have.
