First let me say thank you to everyone for your help.
Tonight was a bit stressful because we all know when our babies are not feeling well.
I'm on my phone and can't attach our condo sorry.
Full urine work up.
Kidneys ok
Ketones- negative.
No signs of infection
Blood- good only showing signs of dehydration
Pancrease - in house test - Normal
Lungs sounded good she heard slight gurgling
Made them look at teeth- ok no infection
Cleaning should be done

They gave him a pain med, antibodics, and pepcid ( injection?)
And fluids. They feel without doing a ultrasound Bubba may have a virus or bacteria
In his tummy. She said they are going to treat it as they would pancreaitis flare
Idk? The ultrasound was 500.00 additional
Yet the vet felt we should see if this works and clears it.up before proceeding

I know all of these tests could have been done by my local vet tomorrow but I felt
Like we needed to know since he has history of
Ketones and fatty liver. I'm still going to save up for the ultrasound and shop the price
He didn't really eat when he got home but he's a little drugged up.

Let me end with this...The vets were impressed with

My glucose log ( + this, + that ;)
My home testing skills
Ketones testing at home
What I think should be looked at
What meds I've heard about
And she giggled when I mentioned Nadir!

I take no credit in knowing any of the above!
Really, no fluff here, I'm so very grateful to all of you.
Little did she know that I have like the bat phone of diabetes its this board!

Fingers crossed this will pass and he will just stay on track here
Hoping tomorrow I will have one hungry boy!
And they didn't call him obese this time;)

((((Jackie))))

I'm so glad there was nothing really serious and I hope what they gave him will help so he will eat and feel more comfortable. I hope you feel better and get some rest tonight. You've done great.

Do you happen to know what the "in house" test for pancreatitis was? A Snap fPL is what will give you a more reliable result that blood work that measures lipase.

I hope Bubba is feeling better today.

Hi,

Bubba is still not eating normal today. Small nibbles
Not much at all.
Glucose am 291.

I went to his vet and we are doing ultrasound wed
He gave him a appetite stimulant due to his fatty liver history
Cyproheptadine 4 mg, takes half once per day.
( just looked up PLI, great not the most accurate one)!!
Sienna, on this lab work up it says PLI ?
I didn't even think to ask which test. Sienna!
I was beside myself. If this is not the most accurate
One will the ultrasound pick up?

Thinking you make all the right moves and I could have done a happy dance last night only to see he's still not eating. Something is wrong. Hopefully, the ultrasound will give us the whole picture.
He's a big boy and needs to eat. I'm just down.

Hi Jackie,

I'm sorry that I haven't visited your condo until now; I'm just getting caught up on Bubba's issues. I hope that the ultrasound will give you some answers and set your mind at ease. If your regular vet has the IDEXX office equipment (many vets have this now), they can easily do a snap FPL and run it right there in the office. It won't give a numerical "score" (the spec FPL, which gives a numerical score, has to be sent to IDEXX Labs and takes a few days to get the results back), but it will tell you whether or not Pancreatitis is present.

I hope Bubba will be feeling better very soon and eating again. Lots of healing vines heading his way. Try to get some rest today.

You are doing so well dealing with all of this,

Ella & Rusty

We have cyproheptadine that we sometimes give to Zener for appy stimulation, but we just give him 1/16 or 1/32 of a pill as needed. The vets usually prescribe way too much and it makes the kitty a bit frantic. We also give him ondansetron for nausea. Karrie of Karrie and Maverick who is very involved with the Yahoo Feline Assisted Feeding group always insists that an anti-nausea med is need when you give an appy stimulant. Sending feel better vines to Bubba. Hugs to you, Jackie.

Thank you everyone. Bubba sends a high paw back!
I was sitting in my car when writing this come up and crack open a ff can
And Bubba ate about 1/4 can.
I am not doing a happy dance just yet, but it certainly proves
Bubba is boss! I didn't give the stimulant, I would rather not if he would eat on his own.
No matter what going forward w ultrasound.

If need be should I cut the dose in half if I need to give stimulant?
Still have to get the pepcid.

Thanks off to test for +3- and take a nap.

Does Bubba like the pill pockets? We use the dog version, duck and pea flavor (no sugar but does have carbs so just give enough to wrap up the med).
Liz

Yes Anne, we have them and he likes them.
So, pilling him is easier then liquids at the moment.

One thing I've noticed is Bubba has very foul smelling gas and poop.
?

Thanks Dyana, gives me a idea at least.

Ps. Every time I see JD with his bowtie, I giggle.
Best photo ever! Bubba needs a bowtie!!

If he as gas and smelly poop, it sure sounds like something is making his GI tract unhappy!

If he's eating on his own, I'd hold off on the appetite stimulant. Is he nauseated? If so, you don't want to give the cypro to a cat that's nauseous.

I would call the ER and ask which test they did for pancreatitis. The older version of the Snap or Spec fPL was called an fPLI. It's been replaced by the Snap or Spec versions. Like Ella said, if it just says, "Negative" then chances are it's a Snap fPL. The issue with either of these tests is that if a cat is early in the onset of pancreatitis or is over the worst of it, you may not get a value that indicates the cat is having a flare. It may make more sense to treat Bubba "as if" it's pancreatitis.

Did they send you home with any meds and if so, what?

Am I allowed to attach release w info if I leave out name and such Sienna?
Give a better picture. I can't scan it I have no scanner
I don't have a problem including, just want to make sure

They gave him a shot of buprenorphine , sq fluids, pepcid injection
For home they said give pepcid 5 mg 2 x per day
And metronidazole 2x per day

I will call on Monday but test says fpl - normal and has
Idexx next to it. With what was said, I'm now assuming its the older version?

It's hard to know if it's the older version or the Snap test. I'm assuming the older test would give you a numerical value but that's an assumption on my part. The Snap just tells you whether it's positive for pancreatitis or not.

Metronidazole is Flagyl. It's used to treat anerobic bacterial infections (e.g., like are often found in the gut). Bupe is for pain. It would have been nice if they gave you some for home. Did they happen to mention whether it was the long acting variety?

They prescribed the max dose of Pepsid. I would double check that with your vet. It's a fine dose -- it's what Gabby was prescribed when she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. When Bubba starts feeling better, you can always reduce the dose to 2.5mg twice a day. (They are hard to cut since they are small tablets unless you have a pill cutter.)

Thanks Sienna. I'm having one tough time giving him the antibiotic liquid by mouth.
I'm sure I didn't get hardly any in!
Biggest side effect- loss of appetite!:oh boy

I will ask his vet on the pepcid dose and may decrease to see how he does
Can pepcid be given in a pill pocket?
My stepdad gave it to him this morning, but I can't drop it into his mouth like that and don't always have the help.

Good news, he ate some tonight! Will update ss later
Just tired right now and writing down .

Posting to you for the first time..Bubba could be Moonie's litter mate!
Sorry for what you are going through, been to many ER's & vets ourselves the last few months..
You did great to go to the ER, and you did get some help there..
Moonie has been on the cypro, but it was constipating for her, and I call pepcid the wonder drug..Moonie gets 1/4 every night..It does help..
Sounds like you have the situation under control, and are getting sound advice!
Sending Healing Vines amd Prayers for Chubbabubba, and hope tomorrow you will get the needed answers--
Hugs Love from us!

Thanks Ronni ,

They sure do look alike that's for sure! I love Tuxedo's ;)
I hope Moonie is doing well. Tell Moonie Bubba sends a high paw!

You can give pretty much anything in a pill pocket.

They gave you Flagyl as a liquid? It tastes vile. You might want to taste a drop. One type of metronidazole comes in a sucrose base. Obviously, giving sucrose to a diabetic is not ideal. You might want to talk to your vet about getting the tablet form. They can be given in a pill pocket.

It has the name and then suspension next to it?
They told me they couldn't call in a pill form to cvs!
I'm pretty sure that's not true, as its a human drug no?
I'm asking at pharmacy. They wanted me to come back up to ER to purchase?
Wth?
May just go with the pepcid tonight.
Out right now buying more. The one that says ac regular strength right.

Wanted to stop by and say hello. Sounds like you have had a tough time. I hope chubbabubba gets to feeling better soon! Tarragon is on flagyl full time for IBD and takes the pill. The liquid was way too bitter and every dose was a fight. You have gotten lots of great advice. Hang in there. You are doing a wonderful job! Those tuxedo kitties are so worth it. :-D
