Good Morning L, B, & L ~

These numbers are with out a doubt due to the yeast infection in both ears. He is still shaking his head a lot and both ears have waxy debris in them daily. I had Zymox without hydro cortisone overnighted and should get today. Hope that will subdue this ASAP. The garlic oil isn't doing it this time.

Since he returned to greens once in each cycle yesterday, I feel I should stay with the trial, but not feeling really secure.

Vines to all Beans and Kitties in need.

OT:

Showing the condo again this AM.

Mom's service coordinator comes out for his monthly eval.

The garlic oil you are using.....it's my understanding that garlic is not good for kitties? Not sure it would be absorbed when it's put in his ears but he could wash his ears and get it on his paws then lick it off?
Come on Bubba, a few steps into the lagoon please!

The olive oil is infused with one Clove of garlic. He doesn’t ingest any of it and if he got a little on his paws and licked , it’s not enough to hurt him.

Poor little Bubba, I hope you receive the Zymox early and his ears clear up really soon. :bighug:
Hope your Mom has a great eval! :bighug:
Continued good luck on renting out the condo! Have a great day Bobbie!

Poor Bubba's ears. As you know, Felix has the chronic ear infections, too; Zymox helps him a lot, but if he's off it for even a few days, the head shaking starts again. It's so hard to see our babies unable to get comfortable.

Bubba, I'm getting excited for your OTJ party! I think it's really nice of you to have another one, so those of us who weren't here yet for your earlier ones can enjoy it, too.
Cheers to your ears,
Felix

I just posted on Felix's thread!

Do you use the one that has no hydro cortisone in it?? I just started it tonight. And are you saying you use it constantly? It does say on the insertion that it can be used long term but I thought that was just 14 days or so. I will do what ever I need to do!

I've been away for ages (Canoe Outing; Lyme Disease [still struggling], Family reunion left me wiped out, even though I didn't have to do any of the preparations).
It's great to see that Bubba is on OTJ trial again. You can do it, Deputy Bubba!
Vines for his ears.

Alas, I am using Zymox almost every day. I do use only the kinds without hydrocortisone, although sometimes I've wondered if that wouldn't take care of things better so he could be off ear drops for awhile. But now that "long term" means something different for Felix, I plan to just stay with what we're doing, keeping him comfortable and not thinking so much about the long term.

I had been using the one in the green bottle (4 oz.), and it was helpful; I tried using the Cleanser as maintenance but had to keep returning to the green bottle eventually (a few days of cleanser is effective for my other kitties who occasionally get dirty ears, though). Then recently I tried the Zymox Plus (1.25 oz.) in the yellow bottle, and that's better (although it's expensive and I didn't find it in a larger size); he doesn't seem to dislike it as much when I put it in, so it must feel soothing instead of just chilly and wet, or maybe the other stings but Plus doesn't. I plan to use up the yellow Plus and then see if the green works as maintenance. Note photos aren't to scale.

Felix has lots of benign tumors in his ears, and I think that's much of the problem in the left ear. The right ear also gets recurring infections, but it can go untreated for months at a time, whereas the left ear symptoms recur in a day or two without treatment. The right ear is the only one I test; he hates me to touch his left ear, even when it looks clear.

I tried Vetericyn in the past and it was helpful but it has to be used several times a day, and Zymox is better. Vetericyn is great for if he scratches his itchy ears with a claw or for the occasional redness from BG testing pokes.

Bobbie... if you call “zymox” (I did when Nelli had a violent ear infection) any questions you might have- they are like calling a “small town bank” :) ;)

Nelli had the Zymox plus :cat: :)... opps, correction- maybe she didn’t if this one has (low degree) of steroids.
Buuuttt, Nelli, according to her cardiologist, cannot have any steroid. ECID o_O

Thanks for all this info. I just received the green one without hydrocortisone. Back in Dec when he had this issue , that is the one I used and then followed it up with the garlic infused olive oil which kicked it. I am hoping the product does it this time. I have no problem doing it daily if it keeps the BG down. The one with the hydrocortisone raised his BG a lot! My vet was surprised. I was not surprised. I would rather do something longer without the ill effect to his BG's.

Thanks again for your info.

There's a version of Plus without (yellow bottle) and a version with hydrocortisone (red bottle). Some of the ingredients on the yellow bottle do look like sugars, though(?); I'm not aware of it raising Felix's BG, but if his ear infections take hold, his BGs do go up.

Yes... thought so- was giving Nelli Plus and was hydrocortisone free :)
