Boo fell off the wagon

Hi group-

It's been a long time since I've posted on the PZI board. Hope all of you are doing well!

I'm afraid Boo is out of remission. About a month ago, he was running BG readings as high as 150, but could bring himself down on his own. Unfortunately, this morning he was drinking like a fish and his BG was 466! Four hours later it was 486! Arggg. We're going to the vet tomorrow.

He gained weight due to my two civvies needing food down 24/7 as they'd eat three bites at a time (FF classic and grilled). Boo ate most of it :? I will take away the grilled...

My question to you all is this: Can you shoot ProZinc TID? He did really well on that schedule with IDEXX (using a sliding scale) as the insulin pooped out too early with BID dosing. If I can't shoot TID, I'm inclined to try Levemir

Not that it really matters, but he has now has CHF, and takes enalapril and atenolol. Besides risk for diabetes,I know the recent weight gain is not good for his heart

Thank you!

Wendy (and Boo too)

Hi Wendy, Tom fell off the wagon after 2.5 years so I know how you feel. Bummer.
I still use the Idexx so not expert on the pro zinc, gator, nancy, robin, joanna a few more are.
But FWIW I think if you are testing regularly you can do it...I don't see where pro-zinc lasts any longer than PZI but some here treat it as if it builds some sort of shed (?)
any way testing would be the proof in the pudding. i shoot tom tid as needed. not every day.

we're doing pretty good. did'nt notice if you put up a SS but if you do i'll keep looking at it with you...you pretty much know the routine huh?
when tom went back on i almost felt like a newbie at dosing. the first time around tom was only on the juice for a grand total of 28 days before a hypo then remission.
now we are like 10 months in with no end it sight  hope it's better for your boo.

No need for a spreadsheet yet as we haven't re-started insulin. The vet appointment is tomorrow. His numbers from 3 years ago are posted in my blog, but they aren't really relevant now. If he does want me to give insulin again, I'm not sure which one to choose! Grrrrr.

Hi and sorry you had to come back, Harley fell off the wagon in June after being borded, too much stress.

We're using Prozinc, I don't know anything about the other PZI's, but Prozinc does seem to last 10 to 14 hours.

Mom to Missy started Prozinc TID for about a week or so and then went BID and then OTJ.

Prozinc is more flexible than Lev schedule wise so it's up to you when it comes to choosing your insulin, what will fit into your lifestyle.

Good luck tomorrow.

Michele & Pru & Hope & Aria I think both did TID for a while, quite successfully. I think they were on ProZ? I'll go double check....

yep, looks like both were on ProZ. they both posted in the recent remissions thread  up top if you want to check out their data..... and/or PM them and maybe you can entice them to come on over for a visit

welcome Wendy, though sorry about the reason
