Bogie has been on YOUNG AGAIN since November. I thought all was going so well since we got him off insulin within 3 weeks of starting YA. However, it has been a downhill battle since then with other issues (ear hematoma and surgery, vomiting) and now vet feels it all may be due to an allergy to the food. Bogie had a ultrasound today and I am waiting for the results, which I should have before the end of the day. However, vet feels another change in diet is warranted. In the meantime, Bogie is losing weight like crazy--he is down to 12.7 from 17.4 in July. He was diagnosed Oct. 8th with diabetes. By Nov. 22, he was off insulin. I am hustling to compare ingredients between diabetic maintenance foods. I can't imagine that they are so different that Bogie would be allergic to one and not another. What could YOUNG AGAIN have in it that the others do not?? If anyone has any ideas about this I would appreciate it. Bogie has started eating Fancy Feast canned Cod and Seafood Gourmet flavors. He also gets human shrimp daily as his treat. Not sure if this could be causing allergy--but several of my cats get this daily and poor Bogie has been denied all his favorite foods so I hate to take this away also as it is his favorite thing. Also--aren't the classic gourmet Fancy Feast entries similar to the Prescription DM canned foods in terms of proteins, fats and carbs?

Poor Bogie! Seafood is always associated with allergies in many cats, try giving him freeze dried chicken like Purebites; all protein and no carbs. Prescription DM canned foods are high in carbs, some of the lowest are Fancy Feast and Friskies canned foods in pate style, no gray!

Yes - I agree with Dusty Bones bean that the shrimp could be suspect and that the Prescription DM is high carb (about 25%). The Fancy Feast pates to look for are the "Classics". Mine like Chicken Feast Classic, Chicken and Liver Classic, Beef Feast Classic... I do not think that the FF "Gourmets" are low carb. Dry food - yes, even Young Again - is difficult for cats digestive systems because the dry matter sticks to their intestines and they need to drink lots of water to flush it out. I believe that dry food is the cause of irritable bowels, kidney disease and Gingivitis (yes that stuff sticks to their teeth too). It would be ideal if you could get your cat to eat low carb canned food only.

Also, I would also add the Origen Original Cat Treats to the list of freeze dried treats. All of my cats go bonkers over them!

I hope Bogie feels better soon.

Oh gee I hope Bogie is better soon!all that changing food. We use friskies chicken dinner I read the label there is no wheat, corn, rice, soy or maize on the label plus I add some broiled no hormone chicken to the mix.
