So after all that, it's his kidneys...:( Not much we can do other than keep him comfortable. I am going to get the prescription diet from the vet and see how he does on that for now. If he stops eating and drinking then I'm not going to let him suffer. Two of my previous cats went from kidney failure and it wasn't nice for anybody. He certainly isn't going to get to live as long a life as I would've liked him to and of course am wondering what we/I could have done differently but don't know if there is really anything.

Unless Bobee ate something bad or had a rare drug interaction there is nothing you could have done to prevent the kidney problems.
Are you going t give Sub-Q fluids? That helps quality of life and is not hard to do.

We did that for my other Manx who had the same problem.Actually didn't seem to do that much for him other than prolong it for us. My other guy was very laid back and didn't seem to mind the fluids. Bobee's the opposite and I don't think he'd be very cooperative with the whole thing. I add quite a bit of water to his food and he's got good access to water. If he stops eating then I'll do the right thing.

Take a look at this website.. Many things you can do depending on the stage... http://www.felinecrf.org

And a number of the items at thate site are about keeping the cat comfortable - reducing nausea, reducing dehydration, etc. It's Tanya's Feline CRF site and it is quite comprehensive.

Depending on the cat and stage of renal compromise, the cat may go many years. I had one, Kiddle, make it to 18 years old. Her mom made it to at least 19 (caught her as a pregnant stray so age was uncertain).

I took him in tonight to the vet. He was so miserable, not eating even FF, throwing up, etc. Was going to let him go but then decided to let him stay at the vets hooked up to fluids and a catheter. I'm hoping he'll feel better and have something to eat overnight or by morning.

So sorry to hear Bobee is so sick

I think you did the right thing tonight...Give him a chance to see if he can bounce back before making a final decision

All our prayers are with you and Bobee

I think so too. He's such a good kitty, it is so hard seeing him that miserable and uncomfortable. It came on really fast, all his levels in June were fine.

Could be a transient infection, so getting him in gives him a chance at recovery.

Never thought of that, could be. It's been kind of a rough few months on everybody. We were evacuated during the floods and the cats all went and spent it on a farm about an hour from here. I think a week and a half of stress took there toll.

My cat had a horrible acute pancreatitis attack which was almost fatal. He already had megacolon, and
he has now recovered a fair amount from the pancreatitis, but has been diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease and is quite anemic.
I would suggest you join the yahoo group... the members are amazing in the knowledge they have.

Most certainly your vet can help you to understand the numbers, and you can help a great deal with meds and most likely a wet renal diet plus adding phosphorus binders to the food.

Along with the fluids, and binders in the renal food, you could well see a perkier cat.

Thanks will look into the group. Spoke to the vet today and she decided to keep him overnight today as well. He hadn't thrown up overnight and seemed to be pretty comfortable. Hadn't eaten though and she wants to make sure he eats and keeps it down and to make sure he's well hydrated. I told her we'd be fine doing the fluids at home. I'll have to remember to ask her about the phosphorous binder as well.

Bobee passed away last night

He passed away at the vet's last night. The Vet thought he was feeling a bit better as he had a bit to eat and looked a little brighter but passed away shortly after. Thanks for all the suggestions and support here. I know where to come now for help!

So sorry to hear this!

My deepests condolences on the loss of your sweet kitty. He loved you enough to take the decision out of your hands.

Here's a fable I have loved for a long time. I may make you cry, but it says it all. It's official title is "The Loving Ones", but I have always called it You have chosen tears

Fly free sweet Bobee and land softly. There are many at the bridge to welcome you wings_cat

Thanks Chris and China. I think it's a bit easier when they decide it's time. He's got his kitty brothers and his first dog waiting for him.

Lighting a ring of candles, in memory of your sweet Bobee. You will be sorely missed little one. Fly free.

Thanks again everyone. Fortunately Nino is also a lovey snuggle kitty...I just wish he'd learn not to stand with all his weight on sensitive parts, he weighs 20 pounds! He's a Maine Coon so he's a big boy.

I'm so sorry to read that your Bobee has passed away. But I am sure he knew that he was loved, and that counts for so much.

I hope that fond memories of happier times with him will help to lighten your sadness.

Best wishes to you,

Elizabeth
