Hello,

Can anyone recommend a boarding place in San Diego that is trustworthy to take care of a diabetic cat?

Thank you,

Elizabeth

Best I can do is show you pet boarding locations on a map here
If you put your full address in the map, you can pick ones to interview by proximity.

Questions to ask:
1) is somewhere there all night to monitor? Is it an kennel assistant, or a vet tech?
2) will they test blood glucose before all shots?
3) will they follow your feeding instructions?
4) can they give the shots every 12 hours after testing?

It didn't work out too well. The place I found said they have diabetics and after I left supposedly she is too hard to handle. They only gave her one shot a day not two, I asked them to give her a spoonful of dry food only to get her to eat and called back they had given her a half cup...now she has ketones again. I went back and the vet tried to give me an open bag of fluids, then sold me a bag of saline solution for $50. I read some site which said not to give saline to give LRS so I got LRS from another vet and tried to return the saline one, they wouldn't take it back although it was unused. So, next time I probably take the cat with me if there is ever a next time.

That is really frustrating! I'm sorry to hear it. Was it a pet boarding facility or was it a vet's office?

It was a resort with a vet who owns/manages it. Apparently even with two vet techs and elbow length glove guards it was too hard to give her medicine. Luckily I was able to come back quick and it was a 2 day stay, she was drinking a ton of water and peed all over the litterbox, it was pretty bad they didn't even change it out it looked like.
