Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago I posted a topic containing documents with newly-provided as-fed carbohydrate and phosphorous values from the Blue Buffalo company. As I said, I didn't compare this information from the company with the information already in our charts (to see if the recipes have changed). Tonight, however, as I was considering giving Moritz some Blue Wilderness 95% Duck, I decided to check the phosphorous content first, and it looks like the phosphorous content has increased since this information was last compiled. In Hobo's Chart, the as-fed phosphorous value is currently listed as 0.14%:

The as-fed phosphorous content provided by the company a few weeks ago is 0.23%. Since they said this is an as-fed value, I calculated taking into account moisture content (according to the Guaranteed Analysis, moisture is 78% maximum). So I did 0.23 / .22 (the dry content) and got a dry matter analysis phosphorous content of approximately 1.04545454545%. I just wanted to call this to everyone's attention since this food no longer appears to be suitable for a cat with kidney issues such as Chronic Kidney Disease (since the phosphorous content is now too high).

I suppose if the true moisture content were less than 78%, then the final phosphorous content would be less, but since the woman who wrote me from Blue Buffalo said "All of our canned recipes contain 78-80% moisture depending on the recipe", I don't think the moisture content is less than 78% (even though it says 78% maximum). As I said in the previous post (linked below), some of the varieties on Blue Buffalo's website are listed as having a moisture content of 81% maximum.

The as-fed carbohydrate value for Blue Wilderness 95% Duck recently sent by the company is the same as the as-fed carbohydrate value listed in Hobo's Chart (.5%). Just a quick question - the dry matter analysis carbohydrate content would then be .5 / .22 (the dry content) = approx 2.3%, right? I'm assuming all of the carb. values in Hobo's Chart are rounded to the nearest whole number?

The only comparison I've done between what the company recently sent and what's in our charts is of the phosphorous and carbohydrate content of Blue Wilderness 95% Duck. I haven't looked at any of the other Blue varieties. But I'm including a link to the thread from a few weeks ago where the documents with the as-fed phosphorous and carbohydrate values can be accessed:

Hope this information is helpful!

Thanks and greetings to everyone and your kitties!
