I just discovered Wilderness Blue Buffalo has a new line of canned food....it's called Wild Delights.

It's looks to be low carb for the chicken & turkey with 9.0% protein, fat 4.5%, crude fiber 1.5% with 81% moisture & Taurine 0.1%

Has anyone tried these or know the as feed values?

Thank you,

Jenn,

I just looked at the ingredients and they either contain potatoes or potato starch. So, I have to question how low carb is it really? Maybe you could contact the company and ask for the as fed values and then someone who knows how to do the calculation, can see where it really is.

I agree--with the potato starch I would get the as-fed values before feeding. Some canned foods with potato starch are ok, and some are too high in carbs. It really depends on how much is used.

Talking to the company is a little frustrating.
They told me:
Those were the as fed values for the Chicken & Turkey Protein 9.0%, Crude Fat 4.5%, Crude fiber 1.5%, Moisture 81%, Taurine 0.10%.
The carbs are 0.5%
Couldn't tell me how much potato strach is in the food. It's the 6 ingredient.

When I went back to the website & read the description of the food it said the food was in rich gravy (a red flag?)

I don't know what to think. All of their food have the same Analysis.

The Wild Delights just launched a couple weeks ago. So they might not be in most stores yet.

Those aren't the as-fed values--they are the guaranteed analysis. You can't determine the carb content from those numbers.

I would call them back or send them an email and make it clear that you need the AS FED or the dry weight values and stress that you do not want the guaranteed analysis as they are nothing more than minimums and maximums and this information (as it pertains to protein and fat but not carbs or phosphorus) is already contained on the can. Ask for the as fed values for the following items:

Protein
Fat
Carbohydrates
Fiber
Phosphorus

Gravy based foods are generally too high in carbs for a diabetic. The gravy is thickened with starches and stuff. If you do get the as fed values, please post them and maybe it will make it's way onto Binky's chart or the Pet Food Nutritional one
