I can't believe I did this but got up at 8 to test, feed and shoot and I forgot the shoot part. He didn't get his shot until 9. :arghh:

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: It happens! You are exhausted. Blue will be fine. Too bad you got up early for nothing.

I couldn't believe I forgot but I was like a zombie this morning. I was just sitting with Blue while he was purring and marching when all of a sudden it hit me. To me, the main part is the test since it takes longer. Oh well...nothing I can do now. :)

    Test +3 sound ok?

You shot at 9, right? So you can shoot 1/2 hour early. Just confirming.

Feed him whenever you want, just not (for now) anything during the two hours before you shoot Of course if he drops under 90 you will feed no matter when it is in the cycle.

    Hi Patty,

Just checking in to see how yourself and Blue have been getting on today. (Haven't been on the forum most of the day - shattered. :( )

I see his nibs has been hanging out in the gods longer than usual.

I hope you've been able to get some bit of proper rest for yourself today, Patty. The early days of FD really can be exhausting.

I had company over and am going to test soon. Blue seems good so I didn't think he was in danger. He was super hungry most of the time begging for food. I fell asleep with my friend over. How embarrassing but I'm not sleeping well or enough. I will update in a bit. Hope you both had a good day.

I'm glad you had a nice visit with your friend, but I know how tiring this is and I really had hoped you'd managed to have a really good kip. I'm sure your friend will understand perfectly, Patty. That's what friends do. :)

I spent the day trying - and mostly failing - to get my head round the finer points of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis under starvation conditions plus the nitty gritty of exercise-induced hypoglycaemia.

I lead a thrilling life.

Oh goodness, I don't think I've ever heard of those. Hope you are ok and not ill.

Blue tested at 448 so kind of high all day (I guess) but not off the charts. He's eating now and I plan on giving him insulin at 8:30.

    @Critter Mom You are wonderful!

Patty, I’m glad you didn’t test more. It wasn’t necessary and as you said, he was eating. I’ve never been a good sleeper. I took sleeping pills until I drove to my Mom’s after a phone call an hour after. I was wide awake but it scared me into stopping.

Sounds good. Remember shooting late can act like a small decrease. No big deal. It gives you a much needed break.

Okay, so that's probably why he was high today. Blue is still eating! I'm waiting the 15 minutes until 8:30 and then insulin time.

My doctor prescribed sleeping pills once and I took a half of it. Stay with me for 3 days. Just couldn't pull it together. I've never taken another.
    Slow metabolism.

I only got 4-5 hours on both lunesta and ambien. Takes a lot to knock me out, lol.

Oh my, you have a fast metabolism. I think I'd still be in a stupor. I have a friend that's like you. She will take ambien and sleep for 2 hours and then wide awake. She has always had insomnia. I guess I'm pretty lucky to be able to sleep. Occasionally I have trouble but not often. Have you tried CBD oil? Not with THC but just CBD.

My metabolism isn’t fast as judged by my extra Covid weight. I tried cbd gummies. Did nothing.

Tell me about it. Covid and having knee surgery so I can't do a thing has made me gain more weight than I ever have. It's going to be hard to get it off. I'm hoping I'll be able to play tennis this fall but so far my knee is not ready.

I got the oil from Charlotte's Web. It knocked me out. Expensive depending on the strength you need. They are all different so you have to find one that works. My vet Dr. Bruno swears by it. Says he sleeps great now. He likes CBD for animals as well.

Ha ha ha no, Bath and Body works. I ordered foam hand soap because I'm going through them fast. You're too funny.
I do like the box however. I think I'll keep Blue's supplies in it.

When we eat food some of it gets converted to glucose (as we know all too well round these parts!).

When we eat, we first use the glucose deriving from the food to power the cells of the body.

Excess glucose gets stored in the liver and muscle tissue as glycogen.

Between meals we still need a supply of glucose (otherwise we'd grind to a halt). The two main bodily glucose production mechanisms are:

    * Glycogenolysis: the breakdown of the glycogen reserves in the liver and muscles.

    * Gluconeogenesis: the synthesis of 'new' glucose, primarily from amino acids (derived from bodily proteins) and fatty acids (from the body's fat reserves).

Cats' metabolisms are primarily powered by gluconeogenesis, they don't need carbs.

Are you still awake at the back? Asking for a friend.

Is that why cats get sick? Eating too many foods with high carb content?

Yep. It's why there's a tsunami of human diabetes too. Carbs are cheaper than fats and proteins.

    ETA:

Caveat: There may be a genetic predisposition towards diabetes . Also, in humans type 1 diabetes tends to be hereditary.
