Started my cat on 1 unit of Vetsulin about 3 weeks ago and I am not doing a curve. He barely ate this morning so I had to feed him a little more around 1pm. so far these are my results below.

blood sugar test 7am (before insulin) - 354
He ate a little bit and gave 1 unit Vetsulin
    Tested at 930am - 290
    Tested at 1130am - 250
He ate a little bit of food
    Tested at 220 - 443

I fee like I am not giving the right dose of insulin so far. Also, after giving him Insulin he seems to just mope around, hide and sleep. It's not until it starts to wear off that he seems like a semi normal sick cat.

I feel really bad about how he feels and I want him to feel better ASAP.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hi Matt.

The 3 basics to getting a diabetic cat regulated and feeling better are 1. long lasting cat appropriate insulin - lantus, levimir or prozinc are cat appropriate, 2. home testing, and 3. species appropriate foods, under 10% carbs, high enough in protein to stop muscle wasting. Above 40% protein is good.

Would you please create and start using the spreadsheet we all use here on this forum?
How to do that is here.

We look for waves, or patterns on the SS, so having one is really helpful for those of us helping you.

It takes time to get your cat feeling better. We'll try to help you as much as we can. Using insulin is not like taking some ibuprofen and feeling better in an hour or so. Insulin is a hormone, and it can take weeks or months to adjust and find the right dose and see your cat feeling better.

What food are you feeding now? Did you find something that would work with The Dudes' IBD?
    How is the pancreatitis?

I remember that you have an upcoming appointment at Tufts to see a specialist sometime at the end of the month.
