Ok, I know this is the FD site, but yesterday my GUMPY GIRL had seizure and I rushed her to the 24/7 vet.... they kept her overnite and told me her blood pressure was 290 and should be around 160! They did exrays, blood work and have her on an iv right now.... she has never done this before. They found a kidney stone and some calcium oxalate stones? in her bladder, blood work was fine and small heart murmur which they said was ok. They gave her some meds for the high blood pressure and want to have me give to her from now on.. and change the diet to Hills CD for the bladder problems......they think the high blood pressure might have caused the seizure......I guess my question is.. does anyone give their sugar babies blood pressure meds???? Or know anything about it????
OMG... I NEED SOME HELP!
BTW.... Bean seems to be going good...eating, playing and going outside for her 10min. grass eating, grasshopper chasing fun.... was going to try the ear test last nite, but i guess I will try today!
TY FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!!!

There are quite a few kitties here on bp meds. My Hope is on Enalapril and B.K. is on Atenolol. I really would suggest a cardiologist do a echo and ekg on her to make sure there is no other problem with the heart other than a murmur. In the beginning of the bp meds a recheck on the pressure should be done every week till the correct dose is found. They do fine on the meds.

My Mario just started taking BP meds (almodipine) a few months ago as well; he's on 1/4 tablet twice a day. It's definitely important to be consistent with the meds, and go back for BP checks to make sure things are under control. Just like in humans, uncontrolled high BP is dangerous for kitties.

My Suzie had high blood pressure for a few years. One of the things Dr Fry had told me was to limit the fish foods I fed Suzie because they increase the blood pressure etc. . . She did tell me why and what was in it but I forget the whys I just limited her fish flavored foods. Which of course were her favorite.

Just curiouis did they do a thyriod test? Usually hyper thyriod and blood pressure go hand in hand with cats most times but not all the time I was told.

I really would make sure they checked her thyriod. . . just in case.

She also had bladder problems. She was on Hills CD for a long time but Hills CD didn't work for her once she got the diabetes. It kept raising her sugar levels perhaps someone here can tell you why. I guess she didn't mind she didn't really care for it. In fact I think I still have some cans here. If I do you can have them if you want I will check in the morning. . .
