Today I bought a Nova Max Plus glucose/ketone meter. Didn't run a control test on it. It only came with 2 strips, so I used one just now. Bob tested at .2
That's "good" isn't it?

I just Googled Nova Max Plus glucose/ketone meter and looked at a brochure the company puts out and they say below 0.6 is normal (for humans anyway).

Yeah, the manual says anything between .1 and .6 is okay. But that's, like you said, for humans. Don't know if you have to make adjustments one way or the other for sugarcats...
Test strips are outrageous too. And of course, Walgreen's only had this one type of meter, and no strips. They're available at CVS, so maybe I'll run over there tomorrow and see if they have any in stock.

I have a Nova Max and a Abbott Precision and they both test about the same but I find the NM bulky, so I use the Precision.

Back when I was doing both urine and blood 4-5 times a day for ketones, I called Abbott about what would a reading be for a cat? She had to get back to me, took a couple of days but the feeling at Abbott was anywhere between 0.2-1.6 was a normal reading for a cat.

I have a cat that will throw off ketones at the drop of a hat and those #'s have worked for me. The problem with just testing the blood and this has been debated on this forum, up/down ..... that it can set off panic sometimes when everything is fine. IMHO .... I use the urine sticks daily and if I get anything I pull out the meter but at $2-4 a strip! much cheaper on eBay.

Thank you Nancy. I'll look on ebay first. And if I get a number that concerns me, I'll post or PM you so I don't come unhinged!

Simba is a 0.2 guy, sometimes 0.3.

I'm uncomfortable if he has 0.4. By 0.7 which he had once, I rushed him to hospital ER so they could counteract any further development. I'm fussy since he had the DKA, it went very fast that time. They are also very nice at the hospital and get everything prepared asap for saving them from the DKA development.
