my cat gus is a rescue, around 10 years old, and he's been a diabetic for around 2.5 years now, closer to three i think. he's a great boy, but he's having chronic blood in his stool, loose stool. i took him to the vet again within the last month and a half, and had all the tests done [cancer, parasites, anything they offered] and he was negative for everything. it's the bright red blood too, the close to the anus. the vet didn't really have any suggestions other than shifting to a perscription food - which i hate because of the content. but i tried and nothing changed. he won't eat wet food, i tried the raw natural diet as well and others previously. please help with any advice, i have no idea how to help him now and the vet office isn't helping me either.
thank you for any adivce.

Check out Feline Constipation for info on the feline GI tract. That may give you some ideas.
Also, a negative test can be a false negative. You might wait a month or so and re-test.

thank you, i should also mention that he gets 3 units twice a day of insulin. i'll look at the constipation site you posted [thank you] but the vet told me that his stomach did not palpatate abnormally - the tract felt normal...

That was more for information about how the GI tract works, in case you could get any ideas from it.

I recently went thru a couple of weeks like that.
Shadow developed Hemorrhoids, it was so bad. Her little anus protruded out.
we did several medications.... and tried to dry things up.... budesonide. clay. I gave extra freeze dried treats( helps make drier poo)
slippery elm bark. probiotic called pearls ( for humans)
also metrodiazanole

turned out mine has ibd/lymphoma..

By the way, welcome to FDMB, the best place you never wanted to be.

There are 4 things you'll need to manage your kitty's diabetes:
- You - without your commitment, the following won't work
- Low carb over the counter canned or raw diet, such as Friskies pates. See Cat Info for more info,
- A long-lasting insulin such as ProZinc, Lantus, BCP PZI, or Levemir
- And home blood glucose monitoring with an inexpensive human glucometer such as the WalMart Relion Confirm or Target Up and Up (the pet ones will break your budget!)
