Chicklet's mom

Hello everyone,

I completed my first BG curve today. The vet advised me to take the BG levels every three hours. I thought I was supposed to do it every 2 hours but took the advice of the vet.

Chicklet is very much a free feeder. I tried to time her feedings correctly but am really unsure if I did it right. I took her BG level, let her eat for the next hour and than removed the food 2 hours before the next GB test. Is this alright? I did not want the carb in the food to influence my results. Chicklet has not yet transferred to wet food. She is resisting this change. I had to make sure that she was eating enough today.

LM, Congrats on your curve. When doing a 3 hr curve you do it for 18 hrs. The 2 hr curve is done for 12 hrs. Either one is fine. Normally you should pick up food 2 hrs before you test and give insulin. For example if you give insulin at 8 you would pick up the food at 6. You do not need to hold food in between.

Congrats on getting your first curve - you can find the instructions for setting up a spreadsheet to report your results in the tech forum. The spreadsheet is an invaluable tool for recording BG results. You can send your vet the link and also attach in in your signature.

Not sure what type of insulin Chicklet is getting - it's good to put that data and also the meter (human or AT) you're using and any other health issues Chicklet has in your signature. Chances are you're going to require help at some point (probably urgently) and we're going to need to be able to access all that info quickly.

Free feeding (except for the two hours before shot time so your PS number isn't food influenced and you know it's safe to shoot) is fine for lantus and levemir kitties. I'm not sure whether or not that is considered ok with the other insulins.

Hey Chciklet, eat your wet fuds it be da best ting for you - Vyktor
