BLOOD GLUCOSE AT 3!

Buttons has never done the drop that has happened today, shes not eating much at all aside from the little yogurt I`m giving her.

I`ve read everything about hypo and stuff but now that I`m in the possible situation, I`m so lost. She isnt showing signs that I can tell, but I am FREAKING out. Should I not have given her insulin this morning? Is this just because shes not eating? Is her dose too high? Is her pancreas kicking in?

help please! I`m so lost!

Did you test her again to make sure that was a correct reading? That's beyond dangerously low if that's right. I'd get to an e-vet immediately.

I just tested her again and its at 4.1 right now. Should I just watch her sugars or still take her in? And I can currently hear her eating dry food.

You want to keep her above 3. Once you get her there, feed a tsp or two of LC and check every 30 mins. Repeat until she comes up above 4 then see how she does without food, checking every 30 mins until you get two rising numbers without food.

Even once you go to hourly testing, don't get complacent until she is up...HC food will wear off..that's why I want you to give her LC above 3 ok?

eta: you can take of the 911. Thanks! :-D

What insulin and how soon do you need the information? I know ProZinc but not the others. Did you go to the appropriate insulin support forum for your answer?

Perhaps, start a new subject with "Need stat dose help Levemir, Lantus" or whichever insulin you use. Or have you already given the injection and how much? Sophie

First, the spreadsheet is the World version and the conversions to US numbers can be found by clicking on the tab at the bottom. Before anyone adds to the excitement, look at the spreadsheet! Buttons' numbers are in a safe range. You're just not used to seeing these numbers.

Since I'm not sure what insulin you are using, not that it makes a huge amount of difference when it comes to managing low numbers, I'm linking a post that will walk you through the steps to handling low numbers.

Wow, that was an exciting day! The first green number usually causes that sort of reaction, especially when you have been used to seeing high numbers.

Actually a 3.0 is okay (low end of normal) but going lower than that would have been a little dicey. This just seemed to come out of nowhere, so I understand your reaction.

A couple of things, after reading the notes on your SS.
You must convince her that dry food is NOT good stuff for her. Much easier said than done, but "caught her in the dry food" is there a lot.

What kind of meter are you using? Just making sure it's a "human" meter and not a "pet" meter, because the numbers on each meter will matter to anyone looking at the SS.

You mentioned her not having much of an appetite today. That's something you want to keep an eye on because it could indicate something besides diabetes coming into play. I did see "no ketones" a couple of days ago, and that's good news. Keep testing for those.

You will most likely see the return of higher numbers in the next couple of cycles, and that would be due to her going into low numbers today. She isn't used to the lows at this point, and most of the time, the "reaction" to those lows is a "bounce" into higher numbers. Don't let those numbers mess you up. The bounces clear on their own, but it can take a day or two for that to happen.

Keep posting and ask anything that comes to mind!

Carl
