I had a cat many years ago who had bladder cancer…well the vet thought it was bladder cancer. It was before a lot of the more modern diagnostic tools that are now available. Her main symptom was consistent blood in the urine and peeing a lot. She was 21 when she died.
I hope you get better news!
Thanks! did you do any treatment? He’s supposed to get an ECHO tomorrow but Gabapentin can cause urinary retention so I’m afraid to give him that. But so can sedation. Supposedly so can NSAIDs (note: all in humans not sure they know in pets) but NSAIDs are part of the treatment per Dr Google
Which may be an issue since he has had a lot of stomach issues, and now has swelling all along small bowel. I’ve struggled for a year to get minimum calories into him everyday. For the first time n a year he enthusiastically ate (a no carb kibble for cats with stomach issues) then threw it all up and had diarrhea.
With my luck he will get steroids which will undoubtedly cause diabetes in my hypothyroid fat boy. I jinxed him by giving away all of my meters and test strips last month.
I just last month moved Methos’ litter box out of my library and my desk back in, turning it from cat hospice back to library. Yesterday I moved the desk back out and today will see if Muz is ok using a litter box in the library rather than his bedroom since I’m not sure how long he will be able to walk from one room to the next so many times a day (and I’d rather not sleep on the floor in his room—we both prefer the library daybed)
Well first anxiety first—I will have to bother my poor vet on a Sunday to ask what to do about his Monday ECHO.
Edit: it won’t be a change in diagnosis. The radiologist I took him to is a wizard. If he says cancer you can take it to the bank. If he says not likely cancer also true (at least from my one cat series). The only ? is with what’s going on in his bowel can I treat his bladder cancer, and hopefully improve his bowel. And of course, could there be more than one cancer going on (spleen and bowel) but it seems like the thing that will precipitate an emergency is bladder and obstruction so like with his brother I’m triaging treatment priorities. Not eating worry is now second place to unable to pee anxiety.
