Bj needs to restart treatment

Hi, guys. It's been a while.

Long story short, we had some house guests and Bj got his paws on a lot of bad people food. Bj has been OTJ for a year now but today his BG was 300. Four days ago it was 168 and a few days before it was 100.

I plan on starting him on Lantus again tomorrow. I'm rusty and would like starting dose advice or any other advice as well. Link to his old sheet below.

Sorry that Bj fell off the wagon. Those carb addictions never seem to go away.

You can use the weight based formula or start at a low dose (e.g., 0.5u). We can always "fast track" the dose, if necessary. It's not unusual for a cat that's back from the Falls to need a higher dose than previously to get back to the Falls. Also, you do want to be aggressive with dosing -- don't sit on a dose that's not working for longer than is necessary.

I'm hoping the contraband plus having strangers in the house are what the problem is and Bj gets back to the Falls in a hurry. You may want to have him checked out by your vet to rule out any kind of underlying medical or dental issue that may be contributing, as well.

Since I'm STILL paying for his last vet trip in the spring there is no way I can afford another. I'm pretty certain it's from the people food and household imbalance that displaced him from his comfort zone and got him sneaking into our other cat's food area as well. He NEVER did that before.

We love updates but don't want BJ and you to set up house here, Mike. Best to get him started on insulin and you can be a bit more aggressive because you've done this before.

On the SS, there are those two lines with dates from May... Is that just dated wrong? Are those actually recent numbers?

Carl, those are actual numbers from May. Bj got some mystery illness and was terribly sick. Took him to the doc and got antibiotics and he popped back fast. His numbers reverted to green quickly and have been green til now.

Easy to forget to keep it away from BJ ;-)

Starting insulin today. Nervous as hell, I don't miss this.

I bought a ReliOn Prime today. I sure hope it works. My motto is "if it's not broke, don't fix it" so I'm not excited to switch devices. But the ReliOn Confirm strips that I know work well cost twice as much.

Nice to meet you and Bj, but wish you guys did not have to return from the falls. My kitty, Cleo, was able to rent a condo at the Falls for a short time (3 months), but unfortunately, for unknown reasons, she had to restart insulin in October. Hope your visit back to LL is a short one!
