I just started my Georgie on the diabetes food this week (starting insulin tomorrow) and I've already noticed big changes. I've started both cats on a serious diet (both cats used to free feed). Much less pee and poop. Hooray! I feel like I will save a lot on litter costs!

Which diabetes food?

It doesn't have to be a prescription food and ideally, it should be canned or raw. I feed the cats at my place Friskies pates, which run around 8% calories from carbohydrates.

Be careful with Georgie and the diet. Until he is regulated, he can't use the food he is eating properly. This usually leads to rapid weight loss and you don't want him to lose too much weight too fast as that isn't healthy either.

Less pee and normal poops are good signs.

We ask about the 5 P's (peeing, pooping, purring, preening, playing) and the appetite to judge how a cat is doing. So, how is Georgie with all of these? Smaller pee piles? Not as ravenous? Grooming himself more? Playing with his buddy again?

Georgie is purring, playing and grooming a lot more after just a few days of insulin! Hooray!!
