BG under control, but still lethargic / peeing lots

Hi, I'm new here. My 12 year old cat was diagnosed in late March. Went on Lantus and wet food for a week, after which BG was getting low so stopped Lantus, and since then she's been fine on just the low carb / high protein wet food. However, she's still very lethargic and drinks / pees a lot. Last trip to the vets was in early May to test the urine as it still seemed sticky, but test showed no glucose. I'm thinking it's time to take her back again for a full blood screen, but before I do I wanted to get some ideas on what could be the issue. We tested BG at home recently and that was fine so what else could be making her lethargic, thirsty and hungry (we cut her back from 1 can twice a day to 2/3 of a can twice a day as she was gaining more weight, but now she's hungry before feeding time).

How low were the lows?

Do you have some more BG readings you can share with us?

We tested BG at home recently and that was fine

Define fine please.

What were the BG numbers?
How long before/after food were these numbers obtained?
What meter are you using for testing?

The meter we have is a Walgreens one (did just see in the spreadsheet it is not recommended, but it's what the hubby picked up at the start). She was showing 66 on that meter, 30 mins after eating. The reading on the vet's meter was about 50 points higher (did both tests to compare the meters). They said that was in the normal range and so to stop the insulin. Husband stopped the insulin and continued testing either just before or after food for a few days and the readings were always low enough that the vet said not to give the insulin.

Last test a couple of weeks ago was maybe 2 hours after eating and was about 74 on our meter.

BG numbers between 40-130 are good non-diabetic cat numbers.

If the numbers are still good, and I would test again to be sure, then there could be something else going on.

Hyperthyroid cats pee a lot and drink a lot of water.

How is the appetite?
Purring?
Preening?
Pooping?
Playing?

It may be time for another visit to the vet to see what else is going on.
