I have posted a few days ago about Bailey having very high BG readings and me struggling to get it under control. I have increased his dose to 2U from 1.5U twice a day and getting some acceptable numbers with that dose. The problem of me even getting close to controlling his blood sugar is that his BG reading spikes tremendously after a meal. Right now I feed him an hour - hour and a half before the shot and then again around +5 hours after. His BG is slow to drop, often only after 2 hours I get anything registering on the Glucometer. He is hungry usually three hours after a meal. I make him wait till +5 hours after the shot so he can have at least a few hours in the morning or at night of lower BG. Within an hour after this +5 feeding his BG spikes to over the "Hi" number on my glucometer.
We have been to the vet on Friday and they did some bloodwork. We will know if he has any infection causing high numbers or if he has thyroid issues as well.
Any advice on feeding - insulin timing?
We are on Novolin N (Humulin)
