So, tested kitty at AM +3 and his BG was 167, tested again at +5 and it is 79. Gave usual food with a small drop of honey. Hoping someone can advise if that is the right thing. Been working with someone on the Caninsulin/Vetsulin forum, but not sure if she will read my post there soon or not, so posting here for advice/assistance. He seems okay, nothing unusual about his behavior.

It's fine but you didn't need to add the honey. He's not in danger until he gets down to about 50 but with Vetsulin, we try to keep them from going this low just so we don't have a situation where they are dropping quickly and we have to work at getting BG back up. That BG is actually quite safe and considering where Clarence is in the cycle, I don't think you need to worry. Test Clarence again 20 minutes after he finished the food you gave him and let us know what his reading is. :)

Okay, thanks. Sorry if I got too eager with the honey. I should have known better and I guess my problem is I panic too easily because this is so new to me. I hope that food and honey won't make him go up too much! Sheesh!

No berating yourself.;) We've all done the over react thing and there is no harm done! They surprise us when they suddenly drop to normal numbers and better to overreact than not to react at all. He'll probably go up a little higher for awhile but the honey will wear off pretty quick. I'd certainly use the honey if he gets that low earlier in the cycle or if he drops below 65 or so just to avoid hitting the low end of normal.
The other option if Clarence will eat it is to get some food with gravy. The gravy is high carb and won't fill him up like food does. You can drain off the gravy and give him a tsp or so to get BG us relatively quickly. It' a good idea to keep some medium and high carb food around just for occasions like this to keep numbers at a good level without raising BG too much. :)

Ok we need to keep this on one thread to keep any confusion at bay. I just responded on the other thread! That is basically the same reading. Test him again in 20 minutes.
