Hey everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that I tested Louies bg levels 2 hours after his insulin and he was at 238.

I am swamped trying to get a million things done...but I will check back on here in a while and will hopefully test Louie again around 3:30.

Thanks!
Laura

Hi Laura,
When you get a chance see if you can put up a spread sheet, like mine, see down below.
It will help you and everyone who is helping you to watch progress or need to change, ok?

Hi Lori!!!!!

I am actually attempting to set one up atm (and the I MUST work on an essay I have due today for my english class! lol) but I am a bit confused on exatly where to enter data.

I understand "Date" and that is about it.....lol are the "+1, +2" etc the amount of insulin you give? Or the hours? Looking at it, maybe its the hours? That looks like it would make sense?

SO I put in the date, units of insulin under U (look just typing this out is helping me figure it out!! I think....lol) and and then his BG at whatever time after insulin? What does "AMPS" and "PMPS" stand for?

Thanks!

Laura

Sounds like you're figuring it out.

AMPS = morning test before feeding and before the shot.

PMPS = evening test before feeding and before the shot.

+1, +2, etc. are the hours after the shot.

amps - am number preshot: if you shoot at 10 am, then amps would be at 10 am.....
pmps - pm number preshot: if you shoot at 10 pm, then pmps would be at 10 pm....
the +2 would be 12:00 o-clock, the +4 would be 2:00 o-clock - etc.
hope that helps - I have a chart attached in the signature.

Hurray for mommy bean!!! the hard part is over, now you just get to drop in his numbers, make a few notes and go about your day!
Louie, your mommy bean is wonderful and she LOVES YOU VERY MUCH! :dizcat cat_pet_icon

Nice job Laura, now we can all see and mark Louie's progress. This is where it can become really fun when you notice the patterns and start to feel in control.
I have'nt read thru all your posts but have you inquired about changing insulins? I may be able to help you get some for free if you need it. Lantus or Levemir.
That would really help you see some nice sugar dancing going on! :-D
Lori

Thanks guys!!!!

Im glad I figured it out! :-)

Lori- my mom has agreed to pay for a vet visit (to my old vet who is great) and I was planning to discuss switching insulin with her! Thank you so much for offering to try and get some free insulin for us. That would be amazing!

EVeryone on here is so nice! Thank you so much!!

I've been following your previous posts. Congrats on the spreadsheet. You have such a sweet attitude ...doing this for Louie, going to school all while having a baby too. OMG!

I also think you should switch to one of the "L" insulins. Many cats can get off insulin because they used Lantus or Levemir. My cat Boomer and my Mom's cat Francis both were able to got OTJ a few months after starting Lantus. For me it was a miracle medicine. I was SO grateful!

You are in the best place for help with Louie! THe folks here live and breathe feline diabetes...they know it all because they've been through it. If your vet says anything that you don't understand or need clarificaction on you can ask here.

Keep up the good work!!!!!!

Aaaw Thanks Traci! :-)

I actually have 2 children, a 3 year old boy and an 11 month old boy. My 3 year old is away with his grandma right now which is why I havent mentioned him much. They come home tomorrow! While I can't wait to see him, I am a bit worried about how much harder its going to be to get the testing done with both of them home. lol I am sure I will figure it out! :-)

I just tested Louie. He was at 330. I gave him 2 units and his dinner. I am not feeling well and am still trying to get this essay done (its an online class....and the essay is due by 11:30) but I am going to do my best to go up and get a reading around 12...which is about 1 1/2 hrs after his shot (btw- where would I put that in the spreadsheet? Under 1 or 2?) I hope I make it back up...im really not feeling well.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help, support and kind words!

Laura,
It can go in either column. You can make a note saying it was actually at 1.5.
Listen, don't run yourself into the ground with this. Your health is just as important, especially with your dear son coming home tomorrow. Get your essay done, and get some sleep. If you don't do the test at mid-night, that's not a problem. I would expect more or less the same results tonight that you got last night since the PMPS and the dose are the same numbers.

Given everything you have going on in your life right now, you're doing an extraordinary job juggling 18 things at once!

Hey Carl,

Thanks! It looks like im not going to be able to check Louie tonight as he appears to be hiding. I went up and called his name. Usually he comes running, ready for his "yum yums" but he must be asleep somewhere. I can't call very loud as people are asleep....especially the baby...I don't want to wake him up.

I finished my essay and went to post it, only to find out that I had read the deadline wrong. I read PM but it actually said AM. I can't believe I did that. I had to e-mail it to my professor and hope that she doesn't take off too many points. Darn...it was a clear A to....at least in my opinion! The best essay I have every written...very funny.

Anyway, I'm gonna go to bed. I have another early day tomorrow.

Have a good night!

-Laura
